Is there any way to hook up a system that will kill the power to a pump....

Yes... Just get a small float switch that goes "both ways" and mount it in your collection bucket.

You have a beckett skimmer with a pressurized collection cup don't you? If so, plug the drain hose and see if the foam collapses. If so, either make or buy a scrum bucket that uses the ping pong balls that float up when they fill and plug the air outlet.

Here's a pic of a commercial one but they are easy build for about 10-20 bucks of parts and a salt bucket with the rubber seal.

I had the same question after my collection cup on my old skimmer overflowed several times creating unwanted water emergencies....

Menards has a device that has a sensor attached to it and an outlet. Basically when the sensor senses water it turns the outlet off. I purchased this and plugged my skimmer pump into it and mounted the sensor to the top of my collection cup. I tested it several times and everytime there was a small amount of water on top of the cup (as if it began to overflow) the sensor would be triggered and the pump shut off. It does not reset until it is unplugged and plugged back in.

Actually I have a bucket with a toilet flange on it that Fade brought with the skimmer. Not sure how well it works so was trying to think ahead.

I think at my next water change I will try it out under controlled conditions

Fill it almost all the way up with regular water so that you can hurry up the process to get it to full. Then just wait until you've collected that extra bit that makes it seal. You'll be surprised and how much it supresses the skimmer w/o an air outlet because it can't draw air in to make bubbles.

A simple float switch from grainger supply will break power to pump when float switch rises.And allow it to come back on when level falls.
