Is there such a thing as a good algae magnet/scraper?

Is there such a thing as a good algae magnet/scraper? what do you use to clean your glass?

YES!! The Algae Free Piranha Float is AWESOME...couple it with one of the Handy blade razor scrapers...

I have one that is AWESOME!!!!!! it is a Magnavore 4ER. it has a shark on it. talk about a BEAST!!! it is very strong on my 1/2" glass. way better than a mag float. you can add a brush attachment to it that works really well too.

Ditto on the Magnavores! I've got a Magnavore 8 on my 3/4" acrylic, and it is a beast too. They are stupid expensive. But the payoff is that they are VERY powerful, and subsequently WORK. Just make sure you buy the Magnavore size that is designed to your tank thickness. If you do that, it WILL work.

The only problem will be the thinness of your wallet.

Algae Free Great White here, 1-2 passes and it's done. Incredible with and incredible price tag to go with it but when you have a deep tank you don't have a lot of options.

Do the Magnavores float when released from the glass?

mine is older and somewhat floats. but pulling the darn thing off the glass is really hard. my children cannot seperate them.

LOL! next time they get out of line you can just hand cuff them to your cleaner and they wont go anywhere.

lmao! yea, the 2 yo likes to pull the magfloat off, so it is on the back wall now and I just hte Magnavore. it is very very powerful.

I don't know about the smaller Magnavores, but the biggest ones do not float unfortunately. However, with a magnet that strong... One dropping is a rare thing. Never just from moving it across the glass. But possible when going around a corner if you aren't paying attention.

It's happened to me once. Just once. No kidding.

Would a Magnavore M-4ER be too much for 3/8" glass? Figuring I will have this cleaner for a while and my next tank will probably be 1/2" glass...

go for it. thats what I use on a 1/2" tank. only thing is it may be hard to move as it will have such a magnetic attachment. also, make sure you slide it on and off at the corners so you dont smack the glass hard. I have scared myself a few times.

please dont store your mag/cleaner in the tank they are not sealed very well and H2O can pass in and out of the case leakind rust and other **** from a rusting mag into your tank
