Is this a bad crab?

This guy was on the acro that Gary fragged up at the Emerald Bay swap. He is hanging out in a rock sometimes and sometimes goes back up to the acro. His nhuge claws just worry me. And he seems to be growing real fast. He catches and eats the fish food also. Any advise?

No idea on that one, but try this:

Since he's no longer on the acro, that's not a good sign...

looks to me like a coral crab. I dont have an exact name, but looks identical to the one I had in a pocillapora. I would say Harmless.

btw, I looked up the link in the first post, and about fell off the couch laughing. thought that was your crab... cute lil one though.

And Yes It did come on a pocillapora I think. But he goes roamming a lot. Since its just a frag maybe he isn't getting enouph food? Think he will catch a fish?

 I don't know how that happened! I cut and pasted and added a [ to the first link and Hanna came up instead of the crab. Now how did Cee get my crab pic to come up?

Oh yea I was going back and trying to edit it to get it to show up right and somehow picked this pic up by mistake! Did I ever mention I am no whiz on spelling or the computer?

She is quite the little cuttie though, isn't she? We call her "fatty" for her pet name. All 3 of my girls were very chunky babies. Claudia was "porky" Rebecca was "chunka moo" and Hanna is just plain ol "fatty"

When Rebecca said one day in the car when dad refered to her with her pet name "I not phat, I kinny!" We knew it was time to drop her pet fat name. Amazing at what a young age girls feel the pressure to be thin. She wasn't even 2.

Enouph bragging on my cute kidds! Whats the verdict on the crab at hand?

I went flashlighting the other night for the first time in quite awhile. I saw this guy and freaked. It's about the size of a silver dollar. It had to have been in the tank for at least 6 months. No missing fish or corals noticably eaten. thoughts?

Angela, from what I read on that type of crap they feed off the mucus secreted by the coral. in return for this food, they protect said coral. try a google on this name and see what you get.
Found in WWM
Family Trapeziidae; the Coral Crabs. Triangular shaped bodies, and multi-colored chelae. Typically found in and about corals of the genera Pocillopora and Acropora. Live well with their own, not other crab species.

search down a bit

Thanks for the link and info! Since he came in on a pocillopora I guess thats where he is suppose to live. His huge claws just got me to worrying because I am thinking of putting all my zoas into the 270 and that is his tank. I would hate to turn loose a monster crab in the 270 when he would be so easy to catch from the 29, Ya know?

Yea Gary, he was on "your" coral frag as I remember anyways :) So will he live in any coral, say my big table top acro or just certain ones? I take it since you would put him in your tank he is safe and desirable then ;). I am setting his tank up at a freinds house with all softies so I will be getting him out soon and was just wondering. I am going to just 1 tank for now.
