It sure is. There's no cause for alarm, they're present in almost every captive system. They only get out of control if you don't maintain your system.
 
Ha ha, it takes more than New Tank to kill off bristles! Those guys can survive being shipped for 5 to 7 days in rock wrapped in wet paper, then survive the curing of that rock. A little ammonia and nitrite? That's like a day at the spa for them!
 
I was rearranging my rock one day and had three of them come out of a rock. Scared the ever-loving poo out of me! The thing is, I knew they were in there, because I had seen them at night, but I wasn't ready!
