is this a good ro/di buy on ebay?

$33 to ship?

thats crazy.. they post a low price and then up the shipping so that they dont have to pay ebay as much..

i'm looking to spend around a 100 for one, usually the 6 stages are like 150 or something, can you guys refer me to one in my range?

Thanks!

There is another outfit on ebay that is out of Anaheim or Santa Ana. They have 2 refillable di units on top. Your add made it sound like a big deal to change NOT!! Most di units will form channels so some of the water bypasses the resin. This is caused by the resin settling, which they all do. Order some extra resin, so when you see the channel, just pack in some more resin. Easy to do and 00 readings.

I picked up the water general w/ 2 stage DI from filter direct. I'm very happy with it, the price was right. I also went to lowes and picked up a few fittings ($10 worth) to install a DI bypass for drinking water. However, the source water adapter they included was total junk, had to get a one piece part to replace it.

When I exhaust the DI resin in this unit I will likely replace it with a fullsized upflow type. Then use the existing DI stages for carbon and hook it up to my DI bypass. That way I can have even better tasting drinking water and full sized DI to boot!

The other unit I was considering was the airwaterice.com Typhoon III. It includes full sized DI, TDS meter and DI bypass.

no, they don't... I wanted to do that too :(

Shipping was fast because it was local to so cal, showed up next day.

Broken record

That's a good unit for drinking water, not good for reef tanks. The 100 gpd membranes are drinking water membranes and have a 90% rejection rate. If you buy that unit your going to want to change the RO membrane. While your at it you should change the DI can because the horizontal mount cans don't work very well.

its just like everything else, you get what you pay for.

filter direct says their membrane is at the upper 90's around 97%....plus my theory is, a ro/di is better than no ro/di at all....even if it's not the best in the world....some people can't afford it. I can always upgrade in the future. Thanks for the help guys!

I have a question, the typhoon III are good for drinking and topping off for reef tank? I am in a process of looking for one that is good for drinking and used for reef tank. Are there any other units out there that does both? Thanks.

All RO/DI units have the ability to be used for drinking water. You can drink the DI water but many feel that it has a slightly metallic taste. If the RO/DI system didn't come pre configured for a RO only tap, all you have to do is add a T fitting between the RO and DI stages. Then just turn off the valve from the DI outlet and take your drinking water directly off the RO stage. Costs about $10 in parts from your local hardware store.

I bought mine @ filtersdirect, and had them swap out the 100gpd membrane, for a 75gpd membrane. At no extra charge. I've had it for about 6 months, and still get 0 tds readings. :D

good luck, Mike
