Is this a steal?

I happened to drop by at a local lfs on my way home not really looking to buy anything when I saw this in the display tank. I was reluctant to ask the price because his animals are pricy in most cases. Well, I had to contain my excitement whe he said $ 29.99 for this one. It is about 4.5 to 5 inches, it's been in my tank for 3 weeks now and the mantle is beginning to extend farther (it was rolled at shell's rim when I got it). What do u think?

That's probably just below average or right around the price for a first grade crocea.

Looks like a healthy specimen, though. If you think about it, a healthy clam is always a steal:)

avg price for that size crocea is probably closer to 40ish, so good buy :) then again, its only good if you like him

That sounds like a great price to me. Here in Dallas that would run anywhere from $70 to $100+ depending on which LFS had it. The little 1 1/2 to 2" ORA croceas go for around $70 here.

For that size and no shipping, I think I did alright. It's even less than the cost of shipping at one online store ;)

yeah you scored a good deal. I have been getting ultra grades croceas here in colorado for $30-$35 from a friends store, but they are in the 3" range so 4-5" is big for a crocea.

btw you need to limit your nutrient on the tank decreasing photoperiod is not going to fix the hair problem. I'd look into prodibio digest and biooptim products and maybe a better RO unit and make sure your MH bulbs are less than a year old.

That would be a good deal around here. Good looking clam btw. I don't think you took a beating on that one.

I ask the owner to get some maxima clams from his distributor. He does not know what a "maxima" clam looks like. So I described it to him. I am hoping I would get lucky again :D. He does not know about this forum..ssshhhhh
