Whatever she is, she's special to my family. :)

It is hard to tell if its wild caught. If I had to guess I would say no. Also I consider picasso clowns to have a little more elaborate art work( although I think that clown is beautiful). Never the less You have a great fish.

personally, I don't understand why people have to categorize every little deviation from normality.

I really like your dottyback clown ;-)

I meant to ask... how the hell would we know if it is WC or TR?

I would ask the people from where this beautiful fish came.

Enjoy it :-)

Sorry, I guess I should have said "picasso like" and that the store said she is wild caught. She looks like she is from New Guinea and the male from Solomon because of their coloring. I never did get a picture where I could count the spines to make sure if she is WC, but I don't see her eye circled in black which makes me believe she is WC? However, I don't think that way is accurate. I didn't mean to upset anyone… My daughter wanted me to share our fish with you folks so she could read it, but after seeing some of the responses…

no no, it is clearly a Seurat. Seurat painted with the dot.

I'm glad to know that my art history class all those years ago hasnt gone to waste. If only my teacher could see me now.

I like the dot! Very unique... much more so than even picasso's...

Spine count and Eye color have nothing to do with WC or TR, that is supose to tell you the difference between Percula and Occelaris. Yours is for sure a wild caught true percula.

How big is it? If its really tiny it might be juvi & go onyx on you as it ages! I see muddy color up near the dorsal so that will probably darken to black...thats what also makes me think it could still be developing!

Whatever it is it's BEAUTIFUL!!!! Nice pic. Would love to see the other side also.
Thank you for that! My daughter just loves her. The clown has normal patterns on the other side, but lucky for us she always like to show off her dot.

Thank you very much for the kind words. We also think the dot is more appealing than the typical picassos. I didn't know that about the spine count and eye color. Thank you for the info. She's about 1.5 inches right now and she sure would look nice with more black. :) When do they stop developing?

i think the names we are calling the clowns are getting carried away sometimes. i myself have to admit , ive been caught up in this trend also. i originally just named my clownfish as "jigsaw" bec its pattern looked like a jigsaw puzzle. but it was a simple name just as you would name a pet "fido" :) but for some reason, people started to think that there was a type of perc called jigsaw. anyway the point is that your clownfish is beautiful! call it anything you want :)

to answer your question, with WC clowns, there dev. is hard to predict bec of there unknow age. your clown can be 10 years and has just been suppressed in the wild by a dominant female or it can be a juv.

your water conditions, food, etc can cause the black to fade or dev. more. the immediate area around the white strips will not lose the black. thats a dominant trait of a typical perc. its the area on the body further away that can change towards onyx color.

enjoy it well.........

Like Embryoguy said it can be very hard to tell with WC clowns because you really have no clue how old it is. I have herd it can take up to 1.5-2 years for some clowns to fully develope their color ... My onyx from rod is around a year old and still developing more monthly...

If I had to GUESS... I'd say at 1.5 inches its probably at least a year old ... if you have not seen any more black develope in 4-6 months I'd say its not gonna develope anymore ... if it developes more then just waite... time will tell :)

What a beautiful fish!
What did your daughter name it? :)
Thank you. She named her pebbles and the male punkin (as in pumpkin).
