They (2) have been in my tank for over a year and have not spread.
Is this apatasia or just something harmless?

From what I have read...(meaning don't necessarily take it as fact),

That is the Gulf's version of Aptasia, and isn't considered a pest. Am I correct to assume that is Gulf rock? My dad has 3 he actually feeds regularly and they are getting big and pretty, but not multiplying.

I'm not sure, but I've also "heard" that the Gulf's aptasia that is sold sometimes as a "Curly Cue" anemone.

I'm pretty sure about the "non-pest" status, but not as sure at the "curly Cue" remark.

Well if it's been there over a year - I'd vote "Harmless". It looks more like something in the Zoanthidea family - like a button polyp. I have a few not just like yours but close. I watch them and if it doesn't spread - I normally keep it. To me that looks like a keeper :D

The Curleycue Anemone is from the Cabibbean and can get 11-1/2 inches across. If it is that would be great. I think if it were a Aiptasia it would have multipled by now - one would think but I could be wrong.

curly cues are not cup corals. They just look similar.

Just wondering where "cup corals" came into play?

there is 2 of them if you look to the upper right you can see the other. They have both been there for well over a year so I guess it is ok.

Ladyfsu I dont think it is gulf rock it dosent even look like a rock it is made completly of small tube worms that are red and white they almost look like feather dusters. My camara wont zoom in close enough to take a good pic.

They look like colonial serpulid worms, (Filograna implexa) .
Not sure if the latin is correct, came from a 1986 publication.
Says they like slow flow and are found really deep.

LOL I was wondering about that too. I don't think anyone thinks it's a cup coral.

I think that anemone is just fine. Feed it and watch it grow!!
