Is this clam bleached?

I don't think so, but I just want to be sure. The color is changing on the mantle but I suspect it to be the poor lighting in the LFS.

When I first got it:

sorry, it's dying~
it's not about wash out or not.
when you see a clam open their "GAP GAP"
that big,, and you can clearly see the white underwear inside,,,,,,
don't buy it,,,,,,,,,, it's dying.. and you can do nothing about it...

It looks good. Maybe a little bleached. Its hard to tell because of the darkness of the pic. If it is lightening up then you should slowly move it up the rockwork.

That clam doesn't look like it is dieing to me. Crocea's tend to gape thier intake siphon open a little more than other tridacnids do.

To answer your question, yes it looked a little faded at first but now it seems to be coloring back up. You should move it back up on the rockwork slowly over a pieriod of a few days.

Yep my photography skills are not great. I will slowly move it up and see if the intake closes a bit. My derasa clams intake is closed a lot more than this one. The clam still reacts quickly if I jostle it and it has put out those threads and locked itself into the sand bed so I was under the impression it was happy. I've noticed some people put things under their clams so that they latch onto that? What do you all use (if anything)?

Place a flat piece of rubble rock or another clam shell under it and it should attach to that.

Derasa's and crocea's hold their intake siphons open entirely differently. Crocea's tend to gape a lot more than others do.

Thank you all. I did move the clam up higher and it does have a "fluffier" mantle. So I assume it is happier. I will post a pic in a couple weeks.

Well, it actually has a fluffier mantle than this now. This clam is VERY happy in it's new spot. Thank you all for your input.
