Is this crack bad?

Picked up a free 36 x 36 x 24 cube and noticed this on the corner. The chip doesn't appear to be linear, but rather a clam-shell type chip. It also doesn't appear to extend beyond the silicone, or even into the silicone. Based on everyone experience, is this still safe to use? uploadfromtaptalk1445213713844.jpguploadfromtaptalk1445213723523.jpguploadfromtaptalk1445213735439.jpguploadfromtaptalk1445213746203.jpg

Yep she gone...that chip is not safe, there looks to be lots of small cracks inside of the clam shell chipped area, Pic #2 shows a crack thru the thickness. The worse part of it is the crush in the corner, anytime you see glass that looks like a snow cone it's over. I work for Corning Glass so I'm used to seeing this type of damage.

I wouldn't put any water in that thing. Sorry man.

I'm no crack expert, but generally I've been told to stay away from it all together. I hear it's addictive.

There is, of course, no way to know definitively. Hard to tell how bad the damage is from the pictures though my suspicion is that it might actually be fine. But then, it's not my carpets either  Best advice is probably to toss it.

I did a test fill, but only about 1/4 of the way. There's 4 returns along the back and I didn't have bulkheads so I could only fill it up so much. Overnight there wasn't any leak. I'm going to get some bulkheads to plug up the returns, and give it a go at being full for a month while I build a stand

That being said, I plan on getting some quotes for a new bottom panel. The sides don't have any cracks. I figure if a new piece of glass isn't too much, I'll dabble with replacing the bottom.

If that fails, I'll spring for a new tank.

Just make sure you are comfortable.

I bought a tank with an iffy stand. Thought it would be fine. Then I worry about this all the time. Eventually I will change it out but I wish I had invested a couple hundred extra dollars to begin with. Now I'll have to deal with an eventual switchover. So painful.

Unfortunately sometimes when you get anything for free, you get what you paid for! Sorry
Actually it happened when my buddy rested it on the corner when we were moving it out of the van.

I warned him beforehand not to do so. But nonetheless, all it cost me was a McDonald's big Mac meal so I'm not too upset. It was an attempt at a downgrade. Guess I know the answer to that hahaha
