Is this Ich?

This is my yellow fin flasher wrasse. He's been in QT a week today. He ate great as usual this evening, out competing the other two fish in the QT with him. Nothing different in his behavior. Respiration appears normal.

This is his other side, it looks normal. Sorry about the poor picture, he never is still!

i am going to ask a MOD to move this to fish disease forum but my guess is Lymphocystis Virus. you may get more replies there.

If you think it might be ich but they just look a little too big and lumpy or in stripe formations it could be the cauliflower virus. It is uncurable but goes into a latent state when fish is healthy. It is also not easily transmitted to other fish. I have a Tang that came in with it and it just went away by itself over a few weeks. He has never shown syptoms again and neither has any of the other fish.

I'm not saying it's not Lympho, but that usually begins on the fins or tail. It being on the body is unusual. The white splotches could be something bacterial; but it's those little white dots I see that really bother me. A better pic is needed.

This pic is a real puzzle. Someone could make a case for ich, lympho, brooklynella, bacterial infection, et al.

Any peeling or sloughing skin? A closer pic of the affected area would really help.

Well, he was dead in his hidey hole this morning. Awfully virulent to be ich from what I've read about it? Dead in 36 hours from first symptom.

Didn't necropsy but post mortum inspections revealed a large area of swelling where the white mucous was. There was loss of color and some sloughing in the area and all the other skin was normal.

I have two other healthy fish in that QT and they are my primary concern now in relationship to diagnosing this. I hate to treat with anything not really knowing what I'm treating. The "shotgun approach" does not come easy to me with my background.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Feeling low right now.

Because he died so quickly and you mention sloughing, then IME these are the top 3 possibilities (in order of probability): Brook, gram negative bacterial infection, Velvet. All you can do now is watch all your other fish very closely for similar symptoms.
