so my kole tang is new in QT and I am trying to figure out what is going on with him.

So the lights went off in the room and when i came back just to check on them i noticed he was at the top breathing fast as if he was struggling to breath due to ammonia or something since he was near the surface. So i did a WC of about 70% and he is still breathing fast and since he sin't hiding due to this weird state of mind he is in i got to snap a few pics of his fins.

here is some insight,

1) he has been through Quarantine at the LFS (formalin for ich)
2) he showed no signs of ich but did have specs on his fins but i was told it was lymphocystitis.
3) he wouldn't eat, he would spit out his food

I couldn't tell if A) he was asleep or B) not doing well.

any idea what this is?

the 2nd fish in the QT has it as well (i bought both fishes together) but this fish is fine, eats non stop swims all around very good so far.

i'm certainly no expert although i did have a kole tang go through a bout of lympho. what your fish exhibits looks more like ich to me than lympho (although the spots look bigger than what is typically seen with ich). usually, lympho is confined to the fins with an occasional spot on the fish's body.

since both fish are showing these spots, i would tend to doubt that it's lympho and more probably ich especially since you know the lfs was treating for it to begin with.

i'm stalking you. j/k! :)

LFS do not quarantine properly and formalin may or may not have been done correctly. Based on the behavior, the fish is likely to have ich or possibly the beginning of velvet. Pictures are not definitive.

what is the other fish?

the other fish is a Flame Angel that doesn't seem to be having problems with whatever these things are.

I will be giving the LFS a call and see what he says.

I think in the OP i mentioned the fish came like this.
It was really tough to see because they were always swimming around quick but when I brought them home I saw the fins and I was told by the LFS it was lympo but clearly it isn't as the ones on the back tail fell off the other night.

In the OP you said the fish was breathing fast at the top of the tank. Was he doing that when you bought him from the LFS? The pictures depict him sitting on the bottom of the tank...was he doing that at the LFS?

no, at the LFS he was swimming picking at rocks non stop but he was always shy.
He was doing okay yesterday, coming out swimming picking at the PVC pipes and the glass and actually took a few bites at food, can't tell if it was eaten or spit back out.

ALso, seems to have lost color, looks pale. Whats generally the cause of that?

I think he has flukes or ich, because I haven't seen the spots since those pictures were posted but I noticed the other day he is twitching slightly and looked like he tried to rub his belly on the PVC twice.

So a couple updates...

1) his stomach doesn't look as pinched anymore. I cant' tell what he's eating, maybe he's finding some food at the bottom of the PVC but I have noticed there isn't any sign of poop anymore for the past 4 days. I think he is eating the 2nd fishes poop?

2) those spots are still on the fins, not sure if its ich or not because it isn't a spot, they look like big blobs, like the fin looks a bit cloudy until you notice the spots are whats causing that appearance.

this fish had these spots when you purchased him, right? and the lfs told you it was lympho. lympho, unless it's a horrible case, is not fatal. did you call them to let them know the tang died? it sounds to me like they really took advantage of you by selling you a sick (ich infested) fish but telling you it was a simple case of lympho. bad lfs. bad, bad, bad!

sorry you lost him but i would definitely be calling to let them know and it would be the LAST contact i had with that place. they didn't do you any favors!

ya get what ya pay for.

last time i was at my lfs, they had a couple of tanks with "quarantine" stickers on the front glass. i overheard the employee telling a guy the fish wouldn't be for sale until they were healthy. you couldn't GIVE me a fish from that system!

i'm with chris...all of my livestock comes from LA/DD.

Last time I was at my LFS, one of the tanks had several clownfish that were clearly suffering from Brooklynella. Ruined my day seeing that.

i go to pet supplies plus for dog stuff. i always cruise by the tanks. a couple of months ago, they had an undulated trigger that was clearly suffering from ich. went in again a few weeks later, thought it was the same fish. nope, it was their second undulated trigger and it had ich, too. guy told me they sold the first one and the people who bought it claimed it died the very day they bought it. he rolled his eyes at me. i told him i knew what fish he was talking about and it didn't surprise me that it died since it was sick and that would probably be the outcome of the one in the tank we were standing in front of. he asked me how i knew it was sick. OMG man, it was COVERED in spots and laying on its side on the sand. makes me wanna scream. :(

i did talk to the store manager and she assured me she would check into it but i know she was just blowing smoke up my skirt.
