To me it looks kinda bleached. I am not expert but from what I have read It should not be white and also the foot is pink. It is suppose to be brown.
Is he new ? Was it like that when you got it ?
It looks to be hiding from the light. If it is bleached then that would make alot of sense .
I would let it go were it wants and keep a close eye on it. What kinda lights do you have. If that are MH or something really strong I would move them up abit .
But like I said I am no expert.
Good luck . Others will chime in

i actually don't have a very sufficient light, it is only an 18 watt regular flourecnt that came with a tank combo from petsmart, i am in the process of cycling my new biocube hqi im hopeing that the hqi light will help this anemone, do they get bleached from lack of light or to much light?

They get bleached from both. Lack of light over time, or too much light too quickly. You have a LTA(Macrodactyla doreensis)

The foot coloration is normal, but the anemone itself could be bleached. In my experience they tend to wonder like this when conditions arent ideal or they have a hole in the foot. M. doreensis likes to place its foot in a deep sand bed, usually 4 inches is recommended, you have about 1 inch it appears. However adding the sand now might just make further issues to the tank(mini cycles). I would suggest returning it to the store, or giving it to a friend with a sufficient setup, because right now it is in less then ideal conditions, and thats assuming that the parameters are in check. Get rid of it, good luck!

Who on earth told you that it was ok to put an anemone in your tank with this lighting? If you really want advice....Take the anemone back to where you bought it from, wait at least six months before attempting one again and make sure your lighting and other parameters are stable and up to par. Do a LOT more research on anemones and don't buy anything without doing the appropriate research first.

+1

It's generally recommended to not have an anemone in your tank until it is at least 6 months old. I know you said that you had it in this tank until your other tank cycled but the current tank you have it in is far to insufficient to be able to properly house it for 6+ months.

OP is pretty new here since first post, so probably not aware of researching before buying.
Yes, LTA/M.doreensis for sure, and also agree neither the system you have or biocube will be sufficient for it.
Looks like it's not even trying to bury it's foot even in shallow sand, so hope foot isn't torn.
Definitely take it back or give/trade to an established tank that can support it.

First off, welcome to Reef Central, Kewadiak!

+1 on bringing nem back to LFS for store credit, upgrading your lighting, then waiting at least 6 months before adding another anemone to tank. In the meantime, read, read & read some more here on RC; then ask questions BEFORE making any livestock purchases. Unlike most LFS, fellow reefers have no ulterior motives (making money) & will steer you in the right direction so you can make informed choices about adding product/living animals to your tank.

Good luck in this addiction, er, hobby...;)

Thank you for the advice yea i actually got the lta at petco the guy told me he would do fine and also sold me a bottle of advanced phytoplankton for like 15 dollars and told me to put a little of that in everyday to feed the anemone, does anyone even use that stuff??

Sorry for the double post. I just remembered I was reading up on the different coral foods. Phyto-feast (Phytoplankton) was recommended for Fan Worms, Clams, Softies and other things of that genre. Anemone was not listed.

Phytoplankton does nothing for an anemone; they are photosynthetic and carnivorous, and phytoplankton are tiny plants. Chalk this experience up to bad advice from someone who knows very little about the animals he's selling. Unfortunately, this is very common. However, you'll find a lot of helpful advice here on RC so you can make more informed purchases as you go.
