I was doing some routine cleaning on my vortech pump and noticed this... i've only had the unit for maybe half a year...

any ideas?

Same thing happened to mine except the whole piece rusted after that small plastic sheathing wore away. Be prepared because mine does not work at all now. The rusting has made it so that it wouldn't spin correctly and then it will just stop altogether. Mine was only about 11 months when it happened to me and to this day i still cannot use it because of this. Hope you have better luck

Ive been poking around in this vendor section since i saw your original post and it looks like you can upgrade out of this magnet for under $10. Maybe the ecotech guys can let us know the best way to upgrade either just the magnet part or the whole wet unit and that should fix any further problems for the future. Would this also mean i could start using mine again? Let's hope they can help!

PhLipStyLz and bushh23-

Please email service@ecotechmarine.com so we can fix your problems and get you Gen2 magnets.

Bushh23- There's no reason to put your pump away and never used it again just because a part went out, please contact us and we'll get it fixed.

Email sent and I have a lot of equipment from this hobby that has died after using it and i just figured this would be chalked up to that and i added it to the "pile" of parts.

Sometimes this hobby can be like that but we pride ourselves in the fact that if anyone part of our pump goes down the pump is not a wash, you can always repair or replace components and keep the pump going. We're here to help you do that. Thanks for taking the time to email us.
