I have what looks to me like a GSM paired with a WSM. Is this the case, or I have heard that the GSM's stripes will be white before they are yellow- and how can we tell? If it is a GSM paired with WSM, is it rare? Will they mate?
Thanks-
you didnt need to make a poll lol. But to answer your question, no its not rare. I believe the only difference in a GSM and a WSM is a color morph. they are the same species. Also i think i read somewhere that GSM looks like WSM when juvenile.
Color variants of the same species. I would expect them to pair and breed normally. It is true that GSMs are white and then change to yellow. If it's a young GSM, then in time it will have yellow stripes. In either case, a white and GSM will breed together.
Yep, my last pair of maroons was a mix.
It can take a year for gold stripes to really come in, but I've seen a hint of yellow in younger ones, not too young though.
Hard to tell from pics, depends on size, but does look pretty white.
- haha - I just never see polls and though i would mix it up. So, in your opinion it could be a wsm, but it doesnt really matter because they are the same species thus wouldnt produce a hybrid? My thoughts or curiosity go to the color of the stripes though, (of their offspring) of course one or the other could be dominate, but wouldnt a AND gold striped maroon be cool? I imagine a mixture of both colors in each stripe. - Maybe someone has done this or can find a pic?
I'm starting to think that my male is white stripe. The female is quite yellow and the male has none but both are the same age. I'd assume it would be like breeding two different color dogs, some would be yellow some white.
In my experience with cross-variational offspring in other animals(i.e. cats and dogs) is that some will be one, some will be the other, and the rest will be a mix. Fish a re a different ballgame though
