Is this red slime?

I recently treated my tank for red slime because I found that my live rock had a lot of patches and spots of red and/or dark red areas. They don't really show up under my bluish led lighting, but do show up under white light.

I was looking at stuff online and noticed it on lots of rocks like the ones at this link: http://www.extremecorals.com/Mercha...-29-26&Category_Code=Ricordia&Product_Count=2

So, is this a slime algae, or is it a form of red calcarious or red coraline algae?

Thanks for any tips.

I assume you are referring to the small amount of red stuff growing on the tank glass at the bottom below the recordia? If so, that appears to be a reddish coralline algae growing on the glass.

Cyanobacteria looks like this and is referred to as red slime:

Yes, the stuff in the bottom right corner that looks to be on the rock or the glass. I have that all over a bunch of my rocks and was afraid it was cyano.

Don't know why I didn't just do this to begin with, but here is a shot of it on one of my rocks. You can see the difference in it and the purple coraline algae.

Is the red coraline also, or something to be concerned about?

Thanks.

I don't see any bubbles in the red masses which would indicate cyano growth. It is not focused and hard to determine positively. I don't believe it is cyano. Cyano will have bubbles everywhere in its masses and is very slimy. Coralline has calcium carbonate as a backbone and is very hard when you touch it.

Excellent, thanks for the help. This doesn't feel any different to me than the purple coralline does, so it must be red coralline growth. If so, then I'll take that as a good sign.

Thanks again.

It looks like an encrusting sponge to me, but it could be red coralline. If it is at all soft or velvety, I'd guess sponge.

It is either red coralline or a type of red algae that is not cyano. I get this type of algae on my rocks. I use something called a sonic scrubber to remove it. You can get it at most hardware stores. This type of algae will scrape off with some effort.
