is this safe to use

i have a few 55 gal drums i got from a friend - they contained a powder called sodium acetata trihydrate, crystal - CH3COONa-3H20 (the 3 and the 2 should be half way below the line in the way its written as a chemical abbreviation)

i was told they can be rinsed and can be used to hold rodi water - i wanted to pm randy holems farley but he has his pm's turned off - im hoping someone else is a chemist and can answer this question

Sodium acetate is used as food seasoning, what would that relate to hold RODI water? Hold from what? It can also be used as a buffer solution to keep the pH stable. But RoDi water has stable pH already...

it would relate to ro/di water because thats what i want to store in it after its rinsed out.
i wanted to make sure it wasent something that would harm the marine environment leaving trace elements behind. that was the reason for the question - thanks for the answers, if its safe for food then i guess it safe to say its safe for the tank too

yes thank you - i thought it made sense what i said but maybe what i was thinking and what i was typing are two different things -

in any event yes i want to rinse it out and store ro/di water and didnt want bad things to leach into the water - but it seems that it will be safe - thanks guys again for the answers knowing i can come here and ask questions and get answers is great - i try and help when i can with what i know too -

Simple rinsing is fine. This material is no concern at low levels.

awesome news as i can get as many of theses as i want - this way i know they are safe to sell to others if they need them - i know i'll have plenty of water for top off
