Is this skimmer big enough?

Would an ASM g1x with mesh mod and gate valve mod work for a 90g med-heavy bioload mixed reef (Will have quite a few sps pieces as well)?

Ok, no ASM G1x.... I was also looking at the SWC xtreme 160 (non-cone) but my local source, where I get a discount, is out of stock right now.

I would do a 180. you want to size up a little, get one that will do just a little more than what you have at a heavy bioload.

I'm not able to put down that kind of money at this time. I was looking at the swc xtreme 160 non-cone because it's rated for 125g at a heavy bioload. Plus it's the same price as the cone but with the sicce instead of the atman pump.

That Atman pump makes a big difference in longevity and reliability that's were the price difference is. Some will disagree that the Sicce's are reliable, but what can I say I have a Sedra...:p

Just saw a killer deal on an octopus extreme 200 for $225 at a store in socal. Would that be too big for my system?

No, I think doubling your skimmers size to your actual systems volume is a safe bet and smart thinking. If its brand new and still in the box I'd scoop it up for 235. It may not be the brand spanking new one with the syncra pump, but its still a good skimmer.

ASM G 3 is good for a 90G with heavy stocking, the ASM G 4x would even be better. Dont undersize the skimmer, SPS need low nutrient water to keep the color from browning out. Within reason, it would be hard to overskim a tank.

No, doesn't come with the syncra pump but I've been using skimmers with sedra pumps so the sicce will be an upgrade.

It is a little big for your system, but better that than any asm skimmer.

I would prefer the extreme 160 but that is more expensive right now than the 200 so I guess it will work. No upgrade plans in the future so I'll just have to buy a school of chromis or a bunch more anthias :)
