Is this sps healthy? Growing?

I read that a good sign of growth for sps is if ther tips are white. Is this guy doing ok? I want to start adding more sps and get into the sps scene. also does any one know what kind it is, and i dont like that its kinda brown. does that have anything to do with my lighting? its 2 250 watt 10000k MH on a 55 gal. i heard that the higher spectrum is better for color but worse fro growth?

Well, it's an Acropora sp. How high is it in the tank? Pretty high up?

Looks like a A. Blue Tenuis to me, I could be wrong though.....

its al the very top. i kinda knew it was an acropora of some sort iwas just hoping to find out which exactly so i know how to better care for it specifically.

Well I am no ID master so I will keep my mouth shut.

However, I have purchased a few Acros which were brownish in my old LFS but have turned bright colors later on. One of my favorite pieces was skimmate brown in the LFS, but today it is a bright green! (It also was the only one to survive my tank collapse a couple of years back and is now called 'tank')

As for your lights, they should be fine, just remember to keep your CA/Alk/Mg and other elements at proper levels. Someone once told me that: SPS = Stability Prepares Success

but the spectrum of the light does not effect the color of the coral? its about time for me to change my bulbs now, there about 1-2 yrs old and im thinking of going from 10000k 10 14, 15, or 20k

Word is the lower the k, the whiter the light. 10k is said to promote better growth than 20k...the 14, 15, and 20 k bulbs push more blue, and make the colors jump more. Each brand further presents light differently as well. Iwaki 10k's are more yellow than say, an XM or coralvue.

Can't really tell what type it is but you have very good polyp extension on the acro which is a good sign that it is in good health. Has the coral started to grow over the epoxy yet, that's usually a lot easier to notice rather than tips growing out? Those zoas are awfully close to that acro, they will definitely harm your acro if they come in contact.

White tips means it's growing. The white is the new growth.

Be cautious when changing out your bulbs, especially since you say they are 1-2 yrs old, it is possible for the corals to bleach. So an acclimation to the new lights would be in order.
