Is this STN? Pics

Menard, maybe you're doing something we arent, but I experienced significant improvements in color, PE, etc right after killing my redbugs off.

If they arent a negative in your tank, sweet, but they certainly were in mine.

Agreed. There are a FEW people who seem to have no issues with them at all but the majority of people that find them have serious SPS problems that go away after treatment. That fact cannot be debated. The real debate seems to be whether to treat in the display or remove to QT for treatment.

Rich, everytime I see something wrong w/ tank, such as loosing colors, no PE. I investigate if dont see anything on them, then I go after my water quality. But the damm AEFW nothing I can do to reverse the damage, 90% they gonna end up dead.

for the record... i never said the RBs were the culprit of the necrosis

Me either.............nor do I think it is necrosis. The frag has PE. I still believe it is stress from the transfer/mount.

Menard............I also live with da bugs and like your pics show, I have some corals that do beautifully and others that would see an improvement (mainly in PE) if I got rid of them.

no one said the red bugs were the culprit, and i had no noticeable problems from them. As soon as treated i had better pe and color, but your tank is your tank, do what you want.

I'm more interested in the tissue loss on the bottom of the frag. This is it tonight, doesn't look different from last nights pics.

Should I start thinking about fragging the piece higher up to save the frag?

im noticing the same thing on a frag i recently bought....no red bugs though.

Polyp extension everywhere but at the base, where it appears to be bleaching.

That spot were bleaching occurs, did U hold that w/ your tumb and index finger? Irritation from mounting.:)

no just leave it be, it is likely where you touched it. did you wear gloves when handling it? if it hasn't spread it will be fine. I would have mounted it a bit more horizontally, so that it can get more light.

It does not look like its spreading, so i would leave it to settle down and recover.

Oils and such from your hands can irritate and cause patchs of bleaching on SPS good to wear a pair of nitrile gloves

I didn't see any kirstenk but I doubt that means anything. The frag of A. tenuis that I've been showing is 2" from the glass, hence the very close pics. You would have to sit there for 10 minutes with the naked eye to pic any RB's out on it. They are so small.

I think I'm going to wait and see what happens. I can easily cut the cube off from the large tank and I can transfer with not that much hassle (who am I kidding!) the acros in the 75 to the 30 if I do decide to treat for the RB's. It's my understanding that Montipora is not effected, green slimers and I think mille's are not effected by the RB's.

Here is a close up of my A. loisettea. I can't see jack but maybe some eagle eyed reefers can pick out the RB's.

Silly question, did you superglue or epoxy the coral? Both can irritate tissue from by products and heat of curing, epoxy more so than the superglue IME.

Don't know if you guys thought of this but there seems to be two seperate species of Red bugs that come in on corals. One kind does not seem to affect the corals where the other causes more sliming and irritation. Ive seen some bad damage from RB and then ive seen some awesome tanks(like Menard) who don't have a prob. Id like to get the two kinds under a scope and do a side by side comparison. Intercept dude, there gonna get in that 75! You might never even know it.
