is this too expensive for a fish????

When I use to keep and breed discus I spent way to much on a show breeding pair it was close to that price range. But when I first started I never thought I would spend more than a few bucks per fish. But I belive you take years times dollors and that is what you get the longer you in this the more your willing to spend.

These threads pop up like every 3 days it seems.

If this fish wasn't worth the price, it wouldn't be that price. Supply and Demand my friends.

The people who "won't spent the money" are the people who can't afford it. Keep in mind on the same token.... there's people who see a Clown Fish for $30 and say that's to expensive.

It's all relative to your income. If you had a couple hundred g's to put into a tank, or no tank budget at all.... I bet you would have a Clarion.

Clarion angels are very expensive because they are hardly ever available but I would NEVER spend that on a fish!!!!!!

No, if a had a couple hundred g's to put into a fish tank I'd have a SW pool with a Hammerhead in it.

Cool... But you missed the point entirely

My post was a joke & I understood your post. Something being too expensive is relative to someone's income/budget & the hobby they're in.

$50 might be the norm for one person's hobby while $5 is high end for someone else's hobby.

Mexico is not open to "harvesting" of it's littorals any marine life, even commercial fishing is heavily regulated, going by "law" is a PITA with all the paper work and agencies.
It was said that after many years the government authorized such capture and export of some ornamental/exotic species.
I wonder how many were available for people in Mexico when those people (reefers/aquarists) have no access to imports or domestic creatures.
Humm.....
By the way if you have the $$$ to spread you can get a lot of permits magically.
In a country where kidnappers are the same "anti-kidnapping special police unit" everything is possible...
Illegal capturing of marine life has been going in Mexico for decades as many parts of the world you just need to know "where"
The price reflects what the "legal" businesses have to go through to make this possible, even US and other Customs around the world heavily monitor this special export/import.
If you ask a reef forum based in Mexico you would find heavy opinions about this issue.

You can tell a legal fish by whether it comes with a free clay pot in the shape of a man with a cactus growing out of the crotch.

can you pay for it with food stamps?

No silly--you can use food stamps only for things like alcohol and Nintendo Wii

I used to feel the same, wouldnt ever pay X number of dollars, but the longer I'm in the hobby, and the more my tank continues to start putting a bit back in my pocket (frag sales, in particular), the more I start to consider it.
