Get rid of them if you can. They hurt clams, some corals and your fingers. There are other poop eaters that are much more friendly and attractive than these pests. I don't understand why anyone sticks up for these things.
That is a common misconception that bristol worms eat corals and clams. They will eat dieing tissue of a coral that is dieing but they will not touch a healthy specimen. They are scavengers and if a clam is dieing they will not hesitate to eat them otherwise they are fine. Just take a look in the healthiest reef tank you can find during the night with a flash light and you will be able to find dozens of bristol worms and everything in the tank is perfectly fine.
I had hundreds of them and never had a problem. the big ones got to be abut 8 - 12 inches long. When I could catch them I moved the big ones to my grow out tank because they were scary looking. I got some shrimp and that seemed to cause the smaller works to hide more, which was OK with me.
