As we announced on Saturday, PROP is looking for a few good men or women for new PROP farmers. This is a testament to how successful the program has been. We now have well over 50 PROP corals and the collection will continue to grow as we seek to bring new and exciting corals to Arizona.
Being a farmer is both easy and enormously fulfilling. Basically, we seek out really unusual (and frequently prohibitively expensive) corals from both local and online sources. We buy them, propagate them in our tanks and then sell them at auction at prices that are frequently an order of magnitude cheaper than anywhere else.
The requirements of a farmer are pretty simple. You need an established setup, a demonstrated understanding of the hobby, and a willingness to frag a coral when it's ready. We generally decide on purchases as a group but, if you see something super exciting and just can't resist, go for it. This is a low pressure group and we don't expect perfect (or even close to perfect) results. We fail as often as we succeed but I'd bet that we beat the averages (my attempts not included).
If you are interested in keeping and propagating some of the rarest and most exotic corals in your tank, please PM me. We'll schedule a meeting to take a look at your setup and if all goes well, you'll be part of the group. Note that we are very informal.
