yesterday i noticed something swimmng in crazy circles- it then landed on a rock and moved very slow- its little less then 1/4 inch- looks almost like a isopod- most of the isopod pictures i have seen show almost clear bugs this on is very dark grey-it didnt have very big eyes for what i could tell- i couldnt catch it or get a picture and i havnt seen it since then-

how do isopods swim? he looked like a tornado then landed and then jumped to the next rock the same way a little bit later--

i know pictures are very helpfull but they arent always easy to get- the camara is now sitting right next to the tank but he hasnt showed up again yet
any ideas?

I've seen 2 types of critters running around for the most part.

The first looks like like it has a tail that curls around and it moves around crazy. They have a ton of legs and look almost like a shrimp.

The next kind look like they have a tail and swim around all crazy. These guys like to stay low and swim all around real fast. Almost like a brine shrimp/sea monkey.

I am sure someone else can chime in.

Saltman 123 -- sounds like what you're looking at are amphipods and mysid shrimp.

myfrostmember -- pretty hard to tell if it's an isopod without a picture, but if you're not seeing big eyes even if it is an isopod it's probably one of the many safe varieties.

Yes, definitely Amphipods and Mysis. Thanks for pointing that out. I wasn't totally sure but I just checked out the Melevs link and that is definitely what they are. I have a ton of Amphipods but no Mysis. My friend tank has tons of Mysis and no Amphipods.

A good idea would be to suction a few out and trade, right?
