I shopped with you online because you were considerably cheaper and now you have raised your prices.

I have been getting salt for a while and the price has went up from 59.00 to 64.00 and now shipping is 28.00 so that is 93 bucks for salt.

Please do not forget why sales have been so good. It is because of the great prices that you once had.

With out them, I might as well go back to the LFS. Please do not get greedy.

Thank you for your post, unfortunately quite a few of our vendors have raised their costs of their products recently. Many times this is due to the cost of manufacturing or procuring the product from different sources and quite possibly the inflation rate.
I do apologize for the inconvenience. We try to be as competitive as possible in the industry.

Please keep in mind that we do offer price matching, if you find the same in stock item from one of our competitors we will be able to price match the landed price of the in stock item, which includes any shipping costs that are charged by our competitor, simply provide us a web link to the in stock item on your order so we may verify the costs from our competitor.

I agree with Krz. Down south is a huge port, you telling me that prices can't be lowered? down south gets everything there first. Thanks but no thanks.
 
I went ahead and bought the same item from "That Fish Place" with only a $10 shipping fee. You snooze you lose.

You raised prices on shipping to so it is not just the product.

Please just remember what I said. I work for a large retail company and we have not raised any prices.

In most cases you raise them because you want to. Do not forget how you became so big to begin with. If you forget that, you will start to lose more customers...starting with me.

I enjoy this site for all of the information I have gathered for my project and I'm also a good customer of yours Marine Depot.

I find it very distasteful for someone to attack you with negative comments in a public forum. Its humiliating and damaging.
Times are tough right now and chances are if a huge retail company is not raising their prices they are cutting their employees hours or worse, laying them off.
I'm not in favor of these price changes but I will work
with you in a tactful proffesional manner. I thank you for meeting
competitor pricing and responding in a timely manner.

Being positive and polite will eventually get you your desired results....

One of the best first posts that I have ever seen. Very well said with a level of tact and maturity that is the spirit of this site.
Not every retailer will try to make loyal customers happy by honoring other companies prices. Marine Depot is a tried and true retailer.

While I may have put it differently, I believe krzyphsygy was simply trying to make a case for MD's former business model. Anyone who has shopped with them for any length of time knows exactly what I mean by that.

I am particularly disappointed in their new Google checkout model as it has some particularly frightening problems that need to be worked out.

I recently placed an order for some Dolphin products, and completed all steps of checkout. The order never appeared on my account, no confirmation email was received, and when I inquired about it via email they said they had no record of it, therefor no order.

Well, that's all well and good until you wander over to your CC site and see that they did indeed charge you for the order.

So, all things considered....I may just really agree with the title of this thread. It just might not be worth it anymore.

Here's hoping you are all wrong.. Of the three places I delt with setting up my tank (and REALLY abusing my Visa) they were the only sight that delivered on time with no screw ups.. and I just ordered through them again...

although I did see the $20 'handling fee' on salt, and can get it locally way cheaper.
 
I too have seen that typically MD is a lot more over priced than PA on many items, including shipping. I've tried the whole price matching thing in the past and must say that they always match. However, over time that gets very tedious when you're constantly ordering (abusing said CC :) ) and having to do the same thing over and over each time.

After a while I've just given up and just ordered directly from PA. The extra dollars I save from buying from the competitor can be spent on other products even if I have to wait an extra day or two. MD typically ships to me in like 2-3 day since I'm in northern CA by the way. An extra day or so won't kill me.

Point is.. I didn't like the way they currently did business and found another comparable place and went there versus doing a work around :rolleyes: each time. They should be accomodating me, not the other way around.

i with spinc if your unhappy go elsewhere the company offered to match the price and as far as prices not goin up time to get your head out of the sand they go up everywhere everyday what a nice world they must live in for no price increases anywhere i like marine depot customer severvice alone makes up for price increase
 
Well, I am going to backtrack a bit here as their customer service has certainly not changed at all over the years. They were all over my recent problem and already have correction in process.

So, perhaps excellent customer service demands slightly higher prices to reflect appropriate compensation for those engaged in making the Marine Depot experience enjoyable.

I believe it just may be worth it!
 
All of you have issues and concerns and you have expressed them with sincerity!
I also said I'm not in favor of the changes..
My only issue was how krzy attacked. There are simply better
ways to voice your opinion without all the negative comments.

Suppose you were a business owner and that was written to you,
are you more likely to respond to someone who tries to resolve issues with you tactfully or someone who attacks you in public?

Reputation is like gold, while having Integrity is like owning the mine!
 
I just made my first MD purchase, my goods just shipped, pretty quickly for which im happy.
I chose them this time over drsfosters because MD was a little cheaper.

Marine Depot customer service is top notch. I had an issue with a pump they shipped me a few months ago, the pump failed to a manufacturing error, they sent me a new pump and expedited it for free. They credited my account for the replacement as soon as I sent them the bad pump. At the time my 120 gallon SPS tank was without a substantial return pump and they took that into consideration when expediting it. Can't complain... OH!... and they matched the price of a competitor TWICE without hassle...
 
I've ordered 3 times from MD and found them to have as good or better pricing on the product and shipping. I will continue to do business with them.
