It`s only a little addiction

Oh shoot I was supposed to introduce myself. Ok, so I am Tom, retired, and I have an addiction.... crap lets start over. I have had an aquarium since second grade.... hmmm TMI. Ok, I started my first saltwater tank in 1977. I have been on and off my addiction ever since. Married 40 years with 3 now grown up kids having their own and our grandchildren. Our oldest child could spell Tang before he could spell his own name, I kinda regret that. But what the hey is there any better way to learn Biology? Ok I will get serious for a minute. Just getting back into the hobby yet again. I have the coolest Betta that I finger feed. Two 10g freshwater, yes I admit to it. One planted and the other bare bottom with a huge Pleco and a bunch of Marimo balls rolling all over the place, so I guess both are technically planted. I am in the process of curing about 100lbs of dry rock for my 75g. The 150 and 29 are currently and pathetically residing dry in my garage but they will be attended to soon so all is good don`t fret. The 75 I hope to eventually go reef with so that is why I decided to register here on RC. My thanks to whomever started RC it has been a wealth of information. If I were going to give any advice to folks new to the hobby it would be to be patient and do your research. Do not hesitate to ask questions that is how you learn things. Use your common sense and think before you act. And above all else make sure you take the time to actually enjoy this hobby because ultimately that is why your here on RC.

Best wishes, Tom the addict.

I'm been addicted for about 12 years now.

Lucky for me I live in Florida so snorkeling in the Keys keeps me from buying even more tanks (I have 4). And my wife is OK with the aquariums because she likes snorkeling even more than I do... and I love it. BTW, one of my tanks is a 65g (4'x2'x14") shallow reef with just local stuff in it. Mostly collected by us while snorkeling or on beach walks!

Ron love the starfish bro. My wife and I do same. We live in Florida and took got our first diving certification in Gainsville while I was at UF. Our thing is to hit John Pennicamp first diving/snorkeling/camping as we work our way down to Keywest. Our diving trips to the Keys have become less frequent now that we live in Fernandina/Amelia Island but the Keys will always hold a special place in our hearts. Cinyjim I am going to try to post a pic of my oldschool tank that I think you may find interesting and I will also do the progression pics as well if I can figure out how to post pics, so far I have not been able to post .jpg for some reason.

Thanks for sharing your own addictions everyone, Tom

Tom, the wife and I just snorkel. But that means she gets good light without extra equipment for taking photos (like 500+ every time we get wet) and I collect a few specimens for the tank. Over the past 15 years I've picked up a little bit of everything except fish. BTW, we have been doing 4 day weekends where we get wet 2 days and drive 2 days and we do that 3 to 5 times a year.

Have you seen this thread? It's getting old and some of the photos have gone away, but it can be informative, especially to snorkeler in the Keys who don't have access to a boat! Bahia Honda State Park has the best 'OFF THE BEACH' snorkeling in the Keys (but no collecting).

Nice thread, thanks for that Ron. Sheryl and I have snorkeled Bahia Honda but it has been many moons ago. I think one of our favorite things about the Keys besides the water activities is just the laid back nature of the Keys.

Anything related to water activities is right up my alley!
