It Was A Massacre!

So yesterday at the mtg I purchased 4 nass snails from Bett. I got home and dropped them in and immediately my Long Horned Blenny started attacking them! He got two of them really good and they havent moved since last night. The other two are now on the glass.

The funny thing was that after we scared him away he went into a cave and peeked around the corner, stalking them for about 15 mins. During which time he saw movement from the small one he had attacked and attacked it again!

I need these guys in my tank with all my detritus issues but it looks like the Blenny is gonna keep snacking on them.

Should i drop in like 10 next time and hope some of them make it??

Dang, I didn't know blennies liked eating snails. If he has a taste for them he might keep biting any new ones too. Does he ever bother anything else in the tank?

He likes Nass snails and he ate most of the 5 Nerites i had in there too. I think 1-2 is still hanging around. But he doesnt bother my Astrea Turbos, my Banded Trochus or these other two little snails i got from LA and have yet to identify. But then again, those snails rarely are in the sand. And if they are usually it is in the back rather than the front mostly.

The only other thing i saw him attack like this is a small Xenia frag that had floated over to his space. And he stalks the hermit crabs here & there but only occasionally jumps them.

Idk what this Blenny's issue is. Hes supposed to be a damn vegetarian & he wont even eat the algae sheets i put in! Guess he is just a cold-blooded killer. :banghead:

Sounds likes he gonna be an expensive tank mate with his appetite. If it was me, I'd trade him for another fish. You need all the clean up crew you can get right now in your BioCube. JMO...

Jas...try tellin that to Jim....cuz i tried last night and he said he will move out if i get rid of the Blenny lol. I am thinking of trading in for a sand sifting goby or something...but yah i gotta try to convince jim first.

Higher/broadened flow, good skimming, filter socks (only if cleaned regularly), and not over stocking or over feeding... So many people are guilty of the last few, and constantly ask why they have phos/nitrate/detritus issues...

This is strictly my opinion and absolutely nothing more... You will learn from this board, and this group, my opinions are worth very little around these parts, lol...

Nass snails don't do much for detritus issues...

Really? They go after food as it hits the sand bed. So as far as I'm concerned they greatly help out with detritus from building up in the first place and an important part of the CUC.

Maybe you missed the part about it merely being my opinion

Mwahahaha! We got a bristleworm out! By "we" i do mean Jim. We were eating dinner and both looked over at the tank at the same time for some reason and there we see our little bristley friend floating around in the current. He hit a dead spot (lmao kill me!) and Jim began yelling at me to get the net!!! "Hurry Steph! Where is it?! I want this $!@#*r out! Nowww!!!!" So, he scooped that nasty thing up and flushed it down the toilet. Of course he played with it by poking at it before flushing it. It kept getting shorter and thicker and really looked like it was going to explode. Luckily we flushed it before that could happen.

However, I dont think I will pee for days.
