I want/need a couple items for my new 55 gallon rectangular tank. I have a 100 gallon rated canister filter and powerhead but that's about it.
I want to get a HOB protein skimmer that does a good enough job but isn't going to cost me the monthly rent.
I have also been told to look into a RO/DI system to help with my water changes. I don't know much about this system so I would be looking for more advice here.
Any deals going on where I can bundle these together in a single purchase?
Thanks

Congratulations on the new aquarium! The AquaMaxx HOB-1 is probably one of the best HOB skimmers available. The next most popular would be the Reef Octopus HOB skimmers that are also quite good. Both brands are reasonably priced for their quality.

An RO/DI system is indeed a great way to get purified water for your aquarium. We have several great videos about this topic. Just search for RO/DI on our video page or Youtube channel.

We have lots of great sales each week. Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter to receive our latest specials. You may find something RO/DI-related very soon.

Ok. I found out my city water supply uses chloramines so I need a good enough system to clean that water.
I also need a system that can be used outside on a faucet and then disconnected and stored when not in use. My ultimate goal is to replace 10-15 gallons of water every 2 weeks. I would like to mix the water outside in 5 gallon buckets then bring the water inside once I mix the salt in and the water is ready to be placed in the aquarium.
Can you suggest a product that meets those needs?

Depending on your budget, we have several RO/DI systems from Aqua FX or our own Marine Depot brand that are designed to handle chloramines. Here are a few:

Marine Depot KleanWater 6-Stage Economy RO/DI System - 100 GPD
Marine Depot KleanWater 6-Stage Advanced RO/DI System - 100 GPD
AquaFX Barracuda RO/DI System w/ Chloramine Blaster Upgrade - 100 GPD
AquaFX Mako RO/DI System with Chloramine Blaster Upgrade - 100 GPD

Please do note that RO/DI systems do have to be kept out of direct sunlight, freezing conditions and other temperature extremes. When not in use, just make sure that the unit remains filled with water (by keeping the inlet/outlet lines above the unit or use ball valves to shut of the lines).

If you have any other questions, please let us know.
