Its about time! 265g build started.

Not much of an update but thought I would throw up a pic of the skimmer and wet-dry/sump that came with the tank. Not sure what I can do with the sump but it looks to be about a 30g. I don't figure the skimmer will work long term but it might be ok till I start stocking with a lot of fish. Its an aquafoamaster #2 Its 8" dia. and about 30" high. I have no idea what pump was used on it. I've been thinking about just throwing a large NW pump on it and see how it does. I have also thought about trying a mod and making it recirc. but I'm just not sure what I should do with it till I can get something better. When I do upgrade I'll just move this one over to another tank.

Worked on building the wall this evening. I still have to make the small partition on the far side of the tank to close it in and figure out what I want to do with the area over the front of the tank. I want to work it out so that I can have access from the front. I'm thinking of a hinged fold up door or make it look like a canopy top with cabinet type doors. Doesn't look like much yet, but its getting there.

Update time again! Put in a hard weekend. Finished the framing on the fish room and Electric on the game room side, sheetrock, and doors. Well the pic's tell the story.

Time for a project update. I haven't got to work on the tank itself much but I have been working. I have put up the furring strips and insulated the walls alone with running the electric. I know it looks like a mess but I hope to start hanging sheetrock this weekend.

Progress looks great. Having a fish room is going to be awesome! Everyone that is cramming their equipment in their tiny stands will be jealous, I know I will be. :)

Finely an update that has to do with the tank. I didn't like the overflow and return system that came with the tank so I went to Lowes and picked up some parts and put together a dry run of what I think I'm going to do.

Now that I have the overflow pipes in place and measured out I should be able to call around and get some prices on the glass to install as the overflow boxes.

Sometime this week or next I hope to get the fish room cleaned out and pickup my stock tank and start laying out everything. I'm looking at a 100g stock tank for a sump/frag. 75g glass tank as a refug plus a 33g 48x12x12 frag and a 50g 48x22x12 frag tank. I'll try and get a layout of the room up as soon as I figure it out.

In the mean time I still have to hang the sheet rock on the ceiling and mud all the joints so I still have my work cut out for me. I do have the motivation to get this done though because to finish the upstairs I have to get the other tank broke down and to do that I have to get the 265 running.

Got some more done with the tank today. Picked up the glass for the over flows and siliconed it together last night. This evening I installed the overflows. Here is a pic Crissy took thinking it was funny.

Here is a pic of the tank with them installed.

Those are glass overflows or plexi/acrylic? Just curious, I don't see any "teeth" cut in them. Are they just placed at the height you want the water level?

They are 1/2" glass painted black. 1/2" glass I found out is not cheap! They are cut at the height I want the water. Egg crate will be added to the top to keep livestock out. As far as the returns go I have some ideas brewing in my head.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna have to do something similar I think. I do like the idea of using acrylic and cutting the "teeth" in it though.

Be careful with the acrylic in a glass tank if it will be responsible for pressure. Silicon doesn't bond with it like glass. Acrylic works well enough for sumps though.

Have you considered sealing those holes off and running your return up the back on the outside?

Yeah, I thought about doing that but I think I'm going to use them. I have a couple ideas that I'm going to play around with and see how it does.
