It's amazing how quick we can learn

It's amazing how quick we can learn to do things right after we do them wrong. The GF and I were talking about getting another Maroon CF to keep the other one company and Reefkoi said that one would change it's sex to become a pair. That's cool we thought so we found a very nice looking small Maroon CF the same size as ours and brought it home to introduce to her new best buddie.

WOW Can you say "Cage Match. Much to our surprise, our little Maroon CF that was so peaceful and calm with such a great personality turned into Mega Bit*h and went for the throat :eek2: so to say. After about 10 minutes of phone calls to Reefkoi and Aquaman2000 we determined to try and catch the new one and try to put it in something so that they could see each other and not be able to get to each other. A quick trip to Walmart to buy a little plastic container and 400 plus holes later we had a temporary cage to separate the two.

After another 10 minuets in the Clown Fish Forum I found out that I did about everything wrong that you could do. It's been about two weeks since then and we are going to try another introduction this weekend. I read that if they still fight after 3 introductions that it will not work, So we'll see.

I should have added (I've never tried pairing up clownfish) but it should work at least the part of them changing sex is true, I just forgot to add they will fight

Man they went after each other like crazy trying to bite each others fins off.

So how long has the new one been in "jail " for now?

About 2 weeks. I'll try and reintroduce them again this weekend sometime between the frag meeting and club meeting.

have the fins healed back up yet? I wonder without a fish nipping at them if isolation will heal them in a week or 2?

The fins are almost back to mormal. I'm worried about them fighting agan and trying to go into the anemonie. Maybe some of that slime will not be there and it will get stung.

Man that sucks. I like the brain coral you have in the pic. I think you are the third person I have known to have that same one. lol Hopefully they match up. I know it can be difficult when you get them together when they are a little older.

Yeah, that was the second mistake.

Ok, I reintroduced them again (2nd meeting) and they didn't seem to fight as hard this time. They did have their fin biting barrel rolls here and there, but nothing like the first time. They pretty much stayed facing each other and swatting tails at one another. It looked like a couple time each of them would submit by laying sideways but then would repeat the whole squabble cycle again. There is some fin damage to both of them as you can see in the pic's below. This went on for about 10 minutes before the new GSM had enough and took off to the other side of the tank. One hour later they are still on opposite side of the tank. If the fighting doesn't continue I'll just leave them there and see how it pans out long term.

Well it looks like it worked out between the two of them. The original GSM started hosting an anenome a day after I put the new GSM in the temp tank. After letting him out a few days later they had some good spats and stayed on opposite ends of the tank. Over the last month they have been getting closer and closer to each other and now they are right by each other all the time. That and she's gotten way bigger than him in a short period of time.
