OK, not sure if it is me or there is a problem with the equipment.

25 years ago when I hooked up my skimmer it was very easy with 1 small adjustment on the muffler. My son and I just hooked up a bubble magnus NAC7. Very good looking skimmer and the bubbles are very very extreme. My question is, is there anything I am overlooking because this thing is pushing air way way to much. I can not turn it down enough to keep the bowl from filling up with water. If I exhaust it to max it just fills my sump with air bubbles that leach over to the tank.

Is it do to the fact that it needs to cycle a few days? If it is then I will have to put it in a 5 gallon bucket. Is that normal now-a-days. if not then I think I will have to have several baffles in my sump to get rid of the air. I got THE LOOK from the wife when I mentioned a new sump..

Plaese help me stay married!! :eek1::eek1:

I dont' think it should be filling up like that due to a break in period. But I'm not 100% on your particular piece of equipment. May wanna check in the Equipment section on RC, let an expert chime in.

Mistake #1, why did you mention it? lol So many of us know that look well. I got chills just thinking about it.

Found my way around that one, current gf wants a tank big enough to get in :D

Make sure you have it sitting in the correct depth of water. Some skimmers are very particular about how deep they sit and are a PITA to adjust otherwise.

I think zachfishman was saying the way he avoids "The LOOK" was get a gf that wants bigger stuff than he does.

Actually the water is at 6" and it should be at 9 1/2" to 11". Have not adjusted water level yet but hopefully that will fix the issue. Thanks, I never even thought that the water level would be the problem.

I will let my son figure it out, that will make his day. He's still asleep, we were up until 2am watching Conan.

Will let everyone know if it fixes it.

Thanks
Jim

Yeah my first thought was water level. I actually made my sump according to the water level my skimmer needed. Of course if I turn my pumps off and the sump fills a bit, the skimmer goes crazy because the water level went up a half an inch. Those things are pretty picky!

Oh and if you want a new sump, just do it and show later. If I asked my husband for everything I did with my tank, he'd never let me do a thing!!

Well so far no luck. I have tried everything from 9.5 - 11. No matter which way I turn the muffler it does't seem to change. It is blowing so much air that it is lifting the lid off the top and then everything blows out of the seams from the skimmer and fills my sump with bubbles that blow into the tank. I'm sure it's something simple but so far I can't figure it out.

Ok after a complete teardown and rebuild of the pump and skimmer I have it leveled off at 11" and it's working. Not sure what the issue was. However, I still have the problem with air coming out of the bottom of the skimmer where the pump intake is and the bottom of the exhaust.

Any ideas or is this normal for this skimmer?

It will take a little bit for it to calm down during the break in period. It could be a few days or a week, every one is different. You could just put a piece of foam or even a filter sock over the out put for now until it is done being picky.

Well this is the end of day 1 with the skimmer set up in my new sump, when I had it leveled out at 11" it was in 5 gallon bucket of saltwater. I have had it from 11"n to 10" in my sump and it has yet to level off. So many bubble it is lifting the collection cap off the top. I am about ready to toss it in the garbage. I realize it may take a day or two to level off but this this absolutely rediculous. I guess ya get what ya pay for but for 250 you would think it would work. Very seriously thing of getting a My Reef Creation recirulation skimmer, anyone else use them?
