Its May -- are we meeting this month?

Just curious if there was anything in the works for this month, or if we are just going to wait until June due to some lucky people :beachbum: taking vacations and what-not. {And no, I'm not suggesting that I host, not because I wouldn't host you guys, but because I am still in the process of trying to teach the dogs not to bark constantly at strangers...}

As it is May already, I am going to be going to be ordering some animals from Tom's Caribbean before mid-June, if anyone would be interested in joining it.

Hey Emily, if all of or some of you want to go ahead and set something up, please feel free to do so. I am going on vacation next week and with little league, I am pretty busy just about every day. I was planning on having the June meeting at my house, plus we have a trip to Jason Fox's house sometime in June, he is changing up his whole system, so things are on hold for a scheduled date at this time. Save some money for that if you plan on going. Have a good day.
Matt

Did Jason tell you what he is doing different with the system...very interesting. Let me know when you are going down then.

Jason, he is just upgrading things and going with bigger frag raceways, big cube display tank, skimmers, new lighting, etc.. I will let you know when we plan to go.
Matt

I would like to host sometime, but I'd prefer to attend a meeting first to see what they're like. Anyone going to host this month?

So nobody is going to host a meeting? Sorry, but I thought this club was more active than this. :(

We've had three meetings in the past five months. As you can see from the posts above(trip to Jason Foxs'), and another member trying to put together a trip to the Baltimore Aquarium, I'd say yes, this club is, and has been, very active. With the holidays, vacations, and family activities such as Little League Baseball and Soccer, I don't see how this club can be any more active. Hang in there, stephenrsaiz, I think you'll see that we are active and really enjoy each other's company when we get together.

Joe

Thanks, Joe, for the feedback and history about the club. After reading a few of the threads on here, it seems this is an open club without any officers or anything like that. So I'll start a hosting calendar thread and see if we can get members to sign-up and commit to hosting meetings on a monthly basis. I'm sure if this is like mst other reef clubs, the majprity of the members have benefitted from the club in one manner or another. These same members should be willing to step-up and give back to the club.

I recently spoke with Turboneggro (Bob????) and he said he missed the last meeting. That means he's four months between meetings if he can make the next one. If we schedule regular monthly meetings, peoples individual schedules won't matter so much as they can make the next meeting the next month. This sort of monthly meeting tends to lead to more active membership allowing the club to thrive and survive as opposed to dwindling away due to inactivity.

Off my soapbox.

I hope this club isn't heading in the direction I think it is. I attend the meetings to get more informed on reef keeping, not to pay dues that go towards officers that keep track of who was not at the last meeting so they can kick them out. Nor to pay a guest speaker that will tell me how to run my tank. I am getting that info. from you guys and gals. I can not attend every meeting, as with most other members, although we would all like to. Pat knows what I'm talking about. He works about a hundred hours a week. I'm at about 85. Anyway, I think the meetings should be kept right where they're at. If you can't make it, fine. Come to the next one. Or the one after that. And if you can't make that one, we know how to find you.

Just an FYI, I'm not proposing officers or dues or anything of that nature. I'm proposing the people I see posting here begin hosting more frequent meetings to avoid folks only being able to attend one meeting every four months (as is the case now) if there schedule causes them to miss a meeting.

So who all has hosted a meeting? Those who haven't should step up and commit to host one. I haven't even attended one yet, but I've comitted to hosting one.

I'd love to host a meeting.....I was around when the club originally started, and hosted NCNBilly could attest....haven't been to any meetings with the new group as of yet, but I'd be up for hostin June, July, whenever.........have you guys done any DIY projects at the meetings as well?

First off, easy here girls, nobody is changing or charging for the club membership. Don't let things get misconstrued out of hand.

Chris, yeah we have done two how-to's, one was making a DIY sulfur denitrator, which was raffled(free raffle), the guy that won it has seemed to disappear, sort of the thing we don't want to have as members, just takers, you have to be a "giver" also, when you can help. The time after that we (NCNBilly), drilled his frag tank for a bulkhead, I know, no big deal, but that crazy f'er did it with the water still in the tank. Amazingly, it worked no problems. The last meeting was at a members house that has been recently booted from RC. He made up a little reef quiz for those who wanted to take it and try for a chance to win the gift card to TFP he purchased himself, what a guy. He is still a very active member, just can't communicate with us on here. I will be hosting the June meeting at my house in Lewisberry(near Ski Roundtop), any ideas on a DIY project or some other type of "to do" thing?

Have a good one all, and remember to play nice, don't stir the pot too quickly Steve, we are doing the best we can for now.

Matt

Matt, please don't misunderstand. I'm not trying to stir the pot or anything like that. I'd just like to get involved in an active club. For a club to thrive its members should be willing to host meetings, at a minimum. It sounds like you guys are off to a decent start, but more frequent meetings would be a huge boost to members involvement, IMO.

I look forward to meting you all. We still need someone to host in May. :)

I knew and know what you are saying, and it is true that if more people are willing to hold meetings we should be able to have better turnouts, I understand everyone can't make it to all of them because of schedules and such, but the more that are offered should provide more opportunities for others to attend. We also need to do a Sunday meeting sometime, so one of our members(feefer2) can be a part of it, I think he feels left out, because we always do things on Saturdays and he works evenings and weekends. If you read this, we haven't forgotten you.
I just didn't want things to be misunderstood by other members, especially this early in the morning on a rainy day, who knows what will be said. Have a good one, feel free to PM or e-mail me, I'll give you my address and phone numbers.
Matt

booted guy

Hey, how is the booted guy (I know his name, just don't know if we can mention it). Anybody been talking to him?

Aushepherd, he is good, I talk to him all the time, he just got back from his cruise in the Bahamas or some third world place down there, I forget where they went. You can mention it, I don't think it matters at this point, I think he is off RC for good now. I is a shame though because he was very active here on the club forum and really made me laugh and kept us on our toes from time to time. His tank/tub is coming around nicely, things are really starting to color up and grow nicely. He has automated his Alk/Ca dosing with the "Drew's pumps" from Bulkreefsupply.com and some digital timers, got a new(bigger) reflector for his lighting and got some more flow moving around in the tub. Have a good one, hope you can make it to the meeting at my house in June.
Matt

If we are only welcome if we host, someone should let me know. I will do what I can to help, but hosting won't be possible for me. Nor was I suggesting that anyone should be hosting this month. I simply wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something (the changes in the weather have been giving me headaches, so the possibility of me missing something is pretty good.)

Just for clarity nobody mentioned only people hosting were welcomed. I'm just trying to get more people involved in hosting so the meetings can become more frequent. Please don't insinuate that I said something I did not say. Thank you.

I just think its harder for some people to make meetings ect now because of it getting nicer outside and with vacations things like that. Im not even sure where everyone is located (expect for one guy on here), so i probably live pretty far from alot of you guys so it might make it alittle harder for me to attend them all. However if you let me know in advacned i can probably free my schedule to attend, since i havnt attend one yet.
