It's that time for a Harem

Well it looks like they're almost ready to go in.

Tank is an Aquamaxx 32 gallon starfire with an AI Prime HD light. I am currently running a HOB Aquaclear 70 with only a filter pad for the cycle. Afterwards it'll be the normal Chemipure Elite and Purigen combo. Tunze 9004 for the skimmer after the first week of cycle.

I don't plan to run a sump. We'll see how it goes.

I will plan to move some 8-12" bubble tip anemones from my display into the tank later or I might just buy some new and cheap green ones. Who knows... here's the pics.

I hope you know that there is no such thing as a "clownfish harem".
Clownfish only breed in pairs! All other clowns in the same anemone (or tank) are just tolerated "reservists".

It is also unlikely that this will work long term in a 32 gallon tank. Those that managed to keep a large number of clowns together did it in significantly larger tanks.

yea its true that they mate in pairs, but the term "clownfish Harem" is widely used for clownfish only tanks. And i've seen them in smaller tanks like yours, you just won't be able to add much more livestock. If you ever get the opportunity to upgrade the tank size you might want to consider it. The larger the tank, the more territory which equals less aggression.

Good luck friend, and keep us posted! They are super cute! Clownfish tanks are very entertaining! I've been seriously thinking about starting one myself one day!

Following! They look great! Did you get these new or have you had them already? What QT process did you follow for all of them?

Thanks guys!

I had sold my two breeding pairs (Percula Picasso pair / Black Darwin and Orange ocellaris pair). This was my last batch from the black darwin and orange ocellaris. They're considered mocha clownfish. Some of them are have misbars and offset stripes which the industry now calls designer.

@Donivan2009 I'm honestly more worried about my bioload than the agression. I will only have these clownfish and anemones in this tank and nothing else.

@Irishdolphin @2000se The count is 22 thus far. They were housed in a 10 gallon since they were fry and so 1/3 of the tank's water was from their old 10 gallon fry tank. Acclimation was the usual; temperature for 15 mins and slow drip for 5 mins for the ph/salinity acclimation.

I've got a pair of first gen mocha's. Their parents were male black & white ocellaris and the mother was orange ocellaris.

I've been waiting for them to lay their first batch of eggs, they've been keeping a spot clean for laying on the side of my overflow for a few months now. I'm probably not going to raise any for a while anyway, but do enjoy watching others raising them. One day I might give it a go.

I would love to see some good pictures of your misbars. Just what I can tell from these pictures they look amazing.

Just an update. The tank has not had any cycling issues except an algae bloom because of a mishap with the auto feeder but all is well. I've added Chemipure Elite and Purigen to the Aquaclear 70. I've also added a heater. I have not added my Tunze skimmer yet because I wanted to wait about 6 weeks before doing that.

I have been having one problem with this tank setup though. I have been having an issue with surface buildup because the AquaClear 70's suction tube that is located about 6-8 inches below the surface water.

Here's a pic of the surface issue.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this build up issue. And after browsing around I found a thread of someone using an overflow box. I came across a company who sold them specifically for HOB filtration units but they wanted way too much $$ for a simple piece of cut acrylic.

So I made my own.

I bought a sheet of 12"x24" black acrylic sheet that was 1/4" thick from Amazon. With Amazon prime it came out to be about $15 and arrived in two days. On to the pictures:

Pieces measured and cut

The edges of the acrylic sheet were routered with an appropriate bit and then cemented with Weld-On 16.

Edges were then flame polished. FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE.

Final shot. I made it large enough to accompany both the AC 70's suction tube and also a heater.

Clowns' are happy, I'm happy.

Really nice acrylic work there!

When glueing up the parts, do you clamp or hold together with tape?

I imagine you dont want too much clamping pressure to squeeze all the acrylic cement out.
