I've never kept Softies, but want to try a Xenia filter

I have a 300 gallon SPS system that I'm getting good growth out of, but I'd like to add some more system volume and a bit more of a "natural" filter.

So my major question is, what sort of lighting would give me maximin growth in a dedicated Xenia filter. Just white? Blue and white? Full spectrum? I have full spectrum DIY on my SPS tanks, 7 independent color channels, as well as a Warm White Cool White 50:50 blend on my high tech planted tanks.

From what I've read white only in the 5100K to 6500K will grow softies, but do they benefit from Actinic Blues or UV? Or are those colours just for show and pop rather than growth?

I've been using Xenia as my primary filtration for over a decade, and I found that Xenia grows and multiplies best under 6500K to 10K metal halides. You don't need to spend a lot either. The ebay Plusrite bulbs will do just fine, and they will last for years. The real key to get Xenia to reproduce quickly is to reduce the amount of time you use your skimmer. Find the balance and your Xenia will grow to meet the demands of your system. HTH
