Iwaki MD-70RLT motor problem

Hi all,

My Iwaki MD-70RLT motor stopped working. It was on a closed loop, and it was in a high humidity environment. I let all moisture dry off; I opened both the impeller and the back fan housings; and I actually opened the motor housing itself. There were a few signs of rust, but really nothing to create a problem. The motor looked good, overall. There is a small housing on the outside of the main case which houses some sort of electrical device.

In short, when plugged in, electicity gets to the motor, there seems to be a definite magnetic field generated, but not even the least bit of power to the shaft. I left it plugged in to see if its thermal protection would kick off (to allow the motor to run), but nothing happened.

Can anyone chime in on whether I can get this fixed for cheap? Perhaps the electrical device on the outside of the case is the problem?

Thanks alot!

Paul

The part on the outside is the run capacitor. If your motor doesn't spin at all, try to manually assist it starting. If it works after you have done that, the cap is fried in all likelyhood.

Hi,

I tried to get it running by turning the shaft, but there is absolutely no torque being applied by the motor to the shaft...it turns freely. The reason I know electricity is getting to the motor is that when I take off the end cap (the one with the cooling fan on it), the shaft seizes up magnetically if electricity is on. On second thought, perhaps some small amount of water got to the coils and fried these? There is no evidence of any problems with the coils, however. IF the part is a run capacitor, what purpose does this serve, and could it be the cause?

Thankyou for all your help,

Paul

Hi,

Thanks for the offer; I have alot of time and little money (laid off), but i added you to my buddy list!

Anyone else who would like to buy these or can make suggestions about fixing my motor, please chime in!

thanks,

Paul
