Aquascape, sand & a little water to keep the sand wet! Oh yeah!!!!

Just need to find some epoxy bond some of the rocks together.

Can anyone tell me if there's an epoxy that I can pick up at Home Depot that's safe to use?

After some searching I found JB Waterweld is safe to use, so made a depot run on lunch and picked up 2 tubes.
Tomorrow this sucker is getting filled!

I'm in need of some input from the more experienced folks around these parts.

For my return pump I'm leaning towards a mag18 or mag24. I'm going to be using both holes in the return section as returns, so flow wise back to the sump can be handled by the two 1" pipes.
My problem is according to reef centrals head loss calculator I would need a linear overflow of 18" to handle 1200 gph. Which the overflow on a 90 is not.

Ok so my questions:
1) is the linear overflow mentioned in the calculator a guide or a hard number that I really need to be able to handle the flow.

2) is the mag18 or mag24 going to be overkill flow on a 90 gallon when it's feeding two brs reactors for carbon & gfow. The other flow device is going to be a single mp40.

It's certainly going to be overkill. you only really want 3-5x system volume going through your sump every hour (which is usually about the nominal volume of your DT give or take), so you're really looking int he realm of 500 ish GPH at the top end.

You really want to be using powerheads or a closed loop to handle the flow your corals need in the DT. For a return pump, mag drives are certainly great, but I find the eheims to be much quieter. I used to use a mag5, now use an eheim 1260, and it's night and day.

awesome im about to do the same build u get that tank from fish place in tonowanda hope you didn't by the one I plan I buying :)

Well I have moved the inhabitants of my criminally neglected 72 Bowfront over into the 90 gallon & have got some new zoas & a MP40.

Hmmm. Need to a picture of the third addition.
Will do that tonight.

Just got on to look at the forums & decide to look at my thread here. Looking this last picture. Wow! These two have really grown & spread. I'll have to get pictures tonight.

Mate how's the flow on the mp40 ? Is it sufficient on its own in your tank? Thinking of perhaps getting them for new 300 I'm planning this summer .

I love the mp40, just for the fact that it can do random flow with the different modes. The flow is great for my 90 gallon. I have a mag drive 9.5 as my return from my sump.

starting 300 build this summer ...trying to figure out a way to justify the expense of the mp40. I have radions so the link would be cool.

Scrolling through this post makes me want to cry. Last summer was very hard on my tank. I could not keep the temp down and then fall was a major phosphate and red slime. I've just about got the rid slime gone, phosphates are back under control.

During all this the only things to pull thru are the Duncan and some palys that are just troopers and survive every crisis I have.

This one was very disheartening because I had actual growth. corals were spreading, growing new heads, not just surviving, then bam things melting away or strangled out by red slime

Fixes planned for this summer
1) a chiller
2)a radion. The metal halides are just way to hot and power hungry.
3) being more proactive instead of being reactive to problems.

Made an impulse buy on Friday and couldn't be happier with it.
Bought a Radion xr30w. Love the way the tank looks.

Gary,
Such as?
I'm not in the know as to what are good pumps.
If I can save money by going a different pump over buying a chiller I'm in.

Thou I do know of a used 1/4 hp drop in coil chiller being sold for $200

Holy cow with the typos. Posting from my phone sucks
