Jacob's 360 Gallon Build

@Ryan
Yes! I want one of those finger leathers that John has! I would even settle for the smaller one :) The nice thing about softies is that they grow fast once they get settled. Hopefully by this time next year things will look very different.

@Sean
I hadn't thought about a clip. I have seen the grazing bags or whatever they're called. I don't know if the angels would go for it since they're very picky about eating food that "looks right" to them. The good news is that they're actually eating a little better every time I feed.

@Colin
Thanks for the words of encouragement regarding the tank shot :) Yes, fish are a major part of the equation for me. Some people are obsessed with coral, but I'm obsessed with fish. It's interesting to me to see the different personalities in them, and in the challenges in sourcing or taking care of various species. Kids love the fish too and it was actually my kids love of fish that kept me in the hobby after I sold off my last tank.

Jake, peep my build thread and see if the "blue palm tree" things are of your interest. :) All I know about them is they're from GARF and look like miniature palm trees to me.

Jacob, I agree with you. Fish have different personalities, even fish of the same species especially fish that have a reputation for being a little difficult like moorish Idols and copperband butterflies. That is why there is so much conflicting data on these types of fish. Some copperbands and moorish Idols will not eat enything or only one specific food while others will eat enything including cardboard. Other more common and "easy" fish like most damsels and gobies will all just about eat anything.
You really see this when you spend a lot of time with them underwater.
That is my theory anyway.
Oh wait, I think my heater went off

Hi everyone, hope you all had blast during the holidays. Starting the new year with something really nasty always seems like a good idea to me, so here it is:

<img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5165/5316757729_9ac9e8465c.jpg" width="500" height="400" alt="IMG00295" />

Yes, that's my skimmer cup and it's... uh... growing stuff! Sorry about the terrible cell phone pic. I had adjusted it to skim drier and I guess I over did it. There was a layer about 1/4" thick on the inside of the neck that was like damp soil then what looked like mineral formations that you'd find in a cave all around the top of the neck. I adjusted back to wetter skimmate :)

The tank is looking sweet and your photography skills are top notch! :thumbsup: I really like all the Anthia's. I was thinking of adding 5 or 6 to my tank but I'm a little overstocked as it is. I too am obsessed with my fish over the coral but I just have a problem saying "No" :lol:

Oh yea and I'm TOTALLY jealous of your fishroom!!!

Haha.... yes it takes a special kind of person to appreciate a nasty skimmer. It's something only us reefgeeks can understand :D

Thanks Brian. The water room is essential for me. I'm looking forward to making some more improvements and automation out there this year.

Looking great man. Your picks look amazing, very crisp. Would you mind posting a fish list when you get a chance? Happy New Year

Thanks Brett. My current fish list is as follows...

22x Carberry Anthias
2x Chromis
1x Blue Hippo Tang
1x Dusky Wrasse (Halichoeres marginatus) (male)
1x Vrolik's Wrasse (male)
1x Rhomboid Wrasse (male)
1x Watanabe Angel (male)
2x Multibar Angels
1x Achilles Tang (in QT)

Amazing fish, what made you go with 22 anthias? I think it's kinda funny that you have such a huge school of anthias and the smallest school of chromis possible.

After the crash I thought I would just go with a large group of anthias and a large angel (like an Emperor) which I thought would make a striking display... I couldn't resist other fish though, so here I am :)

I was supposed to have 24 anthias just to make an even 2 dozen but I lost one and the second order I placed was one short so I ended up with 22 of them. I think 1/23 fish lost is a testament to both the quality of fish that Live Aquaria offers and also to the hardiness of the Carberry anthias.

I still think that a large group of anthias and an emperor angel would make for a nice display.... but it would take a LOT more than 2 dozen to get the effect I was after in my tank. After thinking it over though I don't feel like my tank is big enough for a fish like an Emperor, maybe the next tank.

I almost forgot to mention that I'm not a huge fan of chromis, I just wanted a few. I started with 7 of them, they were so small that they kept ending up in my sump. I lost a few to filter sock changes, a couple more just disappeared. They could have got sucked into the return pump or just died and were eaten... not really sure.

Here's my latest fish addition, a very clean and healthy Achilles Tang from the Den. I just moved him over to the display after ~5 weeks in quarantine. These are a few snapshots from earlier today under sunlight. The spots on his right cheek are just a couple of small scars.

I am taking a short break from fish additions to add some more corals. I have a few things lined up already but I'm still looking for Bam Bam zoos... if you know of some please lemme know!

I was just thinking about your multibars and achilles fish the other day. Good to see them doing well. :)

Hi Donna. They're all trucking along :) I need some more coral though, my tank looks barren. My wife was joking that I should put a sunken ship or jaguar skull in there to spice it up a bit.

I personally like Hector but he hasn't been available for a while. That is a truly beautiful fish and

Did you mean to do that? It is funny but it very artistically represents the nature of that fish to be all over the place.

I'm sorry man, but you totally lost me here! Hector? The arrows? I don't know what's going on besides we agree that the Achilles are beauties (I think) :)

On a side note, are those watanabes in your profile yours? Beautiful pair. I wish my male still looked like that, his color has reverted to the female pattern almost completely. A couple of females are high on my to-get list right now. Hoping he will color up again. Genicanthus of all species are known to flip flop color patterns quite a bit.

Achilles is one of the heros in The Iliad. He was half divine and his arogance is one of the main reasons why the trogan war happened. Hector was the hero of the city of Troy.

The arrows refer to the way your fish is facing in each picture.
