Jadette's 140g Rimless Build Thread

Oh! Forgot to mention! Anyone notice the new schoal I picked up? :)

Skoal? You dip now???

Lawrence - Yep! Rather plain looking, but under the right lighting, they glow. I can't get a good close up of them. Their blue eyes look scary in the photos. I also picked up a small group of slender anthias. Only 2 made it long term. They shoal with the cardinals now.

Mike - Thanks! I stopped fiddling with my tank the last month, and that has made all the difference. Can't wait for my tank to mature into a true SPS reef like what you have!

Johnny - Great. You actually made me google that. And notice how I nonchalantly repeated the word earlier in this post with the correct spelling to make me look less like a putz. ;)

I really believe in not making too many changes at 1 time. Even with my CA and Alk, I'll only test maybe once a month and then adjust from there.

Shirley, tank looks amazing!! love the sarcasm, always a joy to read your posts!!

Thanks Gene! Btw, I see that you've been picking up a lot of equipment on RC. How many tanks are you setting up anyway????? ;)

Dang your nem is Huuugee..

3.5 yrs going without a split. When it stretches out its tentacles, it's bigger than my head.
I'm seriously envious of your stand!
Thanks! Mike (bobafet1) did a great job on it. I should really take a full shot with the stand and lights, but I'll wait til I get my light fixture all squared away first.

Looking good. You favorite sps is awesome, do you know the name?
I got a large frag of it from MrSandMan over a yr ago. I believe he said it is a Pink Jade. It does have a greenish base, but is showing up more bluish brown in my photo. It was really unhappy in my 75 gallon and didn't grow at all in the 1 yr it was in there, but has really taken off in my 140g.

Completely agree. I think I am at a point with my tank that I don't feel to tinker with it anymore - at least with coral positioning. I'm also happy with my dosing regimen now. Got my dosers tuned in, so i'm just hoping for the best now!
I love your tank, Shirley. What are the dimensions? I couldn't find them quickly in this massive thread. Doug

What??!?!?!?! My 150+ posts on this thread not worthy of a read over?!?!?!? I am totally offended. It's a 60"x30"x18". Basically your tank with the height and depth reversed. :)

I'm so excited. Picked up 5 anthias that I'm giving a prazipro bath to right now. I've been wanting this particular type of anthias for a LONG time now, but could not find a healthy group. Will post pics after they settle in. :)

I don't think it's a purple queens again or is it ?
My guess will be Bartlett?

Also about your lights it looks 100 times better than my kriskros wiring
the diy LEDs are very time consuming but very interesting combining red, blue , white, actinic and cyan without color cluster.
But I love the that I can dim all colors as I please compare to the one I have. Now i think I spend as much as you did now for over 300 diodes , multiple drivers and custom heatsink ...

Good luck with the new fish and I agree on limited hands in the tank will often makes the tank more colorful i notice it time and time again.

Nope. Not bartlett's. Not Purple Queens. Here's a pic with them grouped up with my Waitei Anthias. All females, at least for now.

pretty.. just a trivia question for me at least.. and sorry for the highjack, but can you put different anthia's together? I have only one dispar right now.. and want more, but wouldnt mind combining...

In my experience yes, but really depends on what anthias. The only aggression I've seen in my tanks have been within the same type. My male lyretail beat the bloody crap out of some of my super female lyretails, but left all of my other anthias alone. I've read that bartletts do not play nice with lyretails, but I have no personal experience.

Here's a tank at the Steinhart Aquarium with mixed anthias that I take inspiration from:

Your tank is looking great. Everytime I see a tank like this, it re-inspires me to do something to better my tank. Your "favorite sps" looks like it is going to be an amazing colony soon, and I imagine I will be begging for a frag of it in the future

You obviously have a good vision, and are on the right track of getting there. Hopefully the reefing gods are on your side, because I would love to see this tank grown out awhile from now.

Best of luck,
Andrew
