Japan quake!!!

Death toll up to 1,000 and counting.... this is unbelievable
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fgw-japan-quake-death-toll-20110312,0,5898201.story

Hundreds of birds falling from the sky....
Thousands of fish dead overnight....
Biggest full moon in more than a decade...
What is going on????

Same things going on now that have happened for THOUSANDS of years. We just have instant access to it with media, and it's sensationalized to boot. (not downplaying this tragedy at all, I'm just saying in general)

World not ending, the sun will rise, people will cope and move forward. Haiti just happened recently, and it was a lot worse than this will be. (in death tolls) My daughter took a trip there with our Church, and it was a real eye opener. Things happen, and quite often, year after year.

First, millions of fish were found dead in a Redondo Beach.
Second, earthquake in Japan today.
Thirdly, a volcano erupts in Indonesia hours after Japan earthquake.
Get ready, Lady & Gents!!! The next BIG one is coming to California. :eek2: :worried: :eek2: :worried: :eek2: :worried:

everybody better get prepared... it can happen to any country... should be a lesson to us.. if your tank survives the big one.. be prepared for power outtages..

I have to admire the Japanese people for their bravery and solidairity. Have anyone seen any news about looting in Japan? I can't imagine what it will be like if we have a major quake here in LA. I bet all hell will break loose and it will be worse than the LA riot 20 years ago.

I was just talking to my wife about that last night. Japanese people have respect and honor. Lots of people in the US, do not. There's no doubt if this happened here, you'd have looting and people acting like animals. I've seen none of that in the midst of this tragedy in Japan. Kudos to the Japanese people during this horrific time.

Kind of sad to see what kind of society we're living in today. We need to open our eyes/mind and learn from the Japanese people.

Just saw this article on BBC news.

Why is there no looting in Japan/

The landscape of parts of Japan looks like the aftermath of World War Two; no industrialised country since then has suffered such a death toll. The one tiny, tiny consolation is the extent to which it shows how humanity can rally round in times of adversity, with heroic British rescue teams joining colleagues from the US and elsewhere to fly out.

And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan's technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I'm not the only one curious about this.

This is quite unusual among human cultures, and it's unlikely it would be the case in Britain. During the 2007 floods in the West Country abandoned cars were broken into and free packs of bottled water were stolen. There was looting in Chile after the earthquake last year "“ so much so that troops were sent in; in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina saw looting on a shocking scale.

Why do some cultures react to disaster by reverting to everyone for himself, but others "“ especially the Japanese "“ display altruism even in adversity?

This Earthquake was 1000x stronger than the Haiti Earthquake two years ago... Yikes!!

Im sure the lost and damage wouldnt be as great had there not been a tsunami. Japan has probably the best building codes against earthquakes

I also didnt see looting on the news. In fact people lined up in an organized single file at the supermarkets and people leaving town in jam packed roads looked patient leaving the city in the cars.

What's weird is that this earthquake was two times stronger but relief funds are two times less than what was contributed in the Haiti earthquake. Maybe the rappers need to start donating.

My wife just told me she heard on the radio. Relief effects on the way in japan, relief workers handing out food have never see such orderly conduct.

People would get in line for food, get their share and move out the way for the next person.

Not anything like Haiti or anywhere else where they would push and shove and attack the food trucks. Or even get their share and come back for more.

I tell you what, people in Haiti are dirt poor and I somewhat understand it. Not condoning it, but I do.

What makes me sick is the looting or just "time to act a fool" mentality OUR nation would have. There would be low life gang members and the like just preying on people in a chaotic time.

Again, kudos to the Japanese people for handling this the way they are. I hope other people take notice and learn from it.

haha.. it seems like everybody has had that discussion about how orderly the japanese people seem.. you dont become a world power on an island that holds little or no natural resources without some unified discipline..

comparing haiti to japan is basically no comparison in my book.. the culture is completely different..

well my daughter has decided to leave Japan for now because of the nuclear reactor problems, even though she is in southern part of the country in Hiroshima she wants to be better safe then sorry, shes finding it very difficult getting any credible information regarding the crisis so shes just erring on the side of caution and bailing out, please pray for Japan

its best to leave japan... them pouring water on a reactor that is set to blow is not doing anything.. if it blows we will be screwed here in so cal partially as well.. once the us government starts chartering planes to get americans out of japan.. thats gotta be a sign...
