Marc the eye is kinda like Lord of the Rings creepy. Don't get me wrong it's a nice looking eye...just creepy. :lol:
Potters Update: 3 weeks into the hypo QT cycle and it's still alive. The discoloured section on its side has tuned into a full on fungal growth now. But hey, it is still alive. I reckon the PraziPro knocked off some flukes concentrated there leaving open wounds that got infected. The Melafix hopefully helped. I was advised to do freshwater dips before Prazi to help knock off some flukes rather than hitting them all at once so maybe I'll do that next time.
Tank has been 5-6 days without skimming and it's starting to look pretty nasty. I'm going to do a 50% water change, try and skim for a day and then dose with Pimafix to hit the fungus.
If it's made it this long I am hopeful. The 2 Rabbitfish just look bulletproof but they are a bit skittish.
So I'm debating on whether to get this Calium Reactor not and start collecting some more corals. I wonder why the Hammers and Frogspawns do so well in a low alk/low calcium environment? If I could find more corals that do well under these conditions I might just go that route. Next year I might be gone for 3 weeks at a time and although I can have someone look in daily all they can do is feed fish and maybe make sure top-off is okay and pumps are running. I'd hate to spend a fortune on coral and come back to a tank of death.
Of teh 3 Banggai Cardinals I found in teh overflows only one made it. I only see 4 smaller ones that hang out near the LTA (was 3 originally). So I guess the adults dealt with 2 that didn't find their way to the anenome quick enough.
The Niger Trigger that went in 4 weeks ago has doubled in size in that time. I thought they were supposed to be slow growers, heh. It is just a hoover at feeding time.

Nearing the end of this QT cycle. The Potters didn't make it so I have a couple of bulletproof One Spot Rabbitfish. Think I'll keep them in hypo another few days and then start bringing them out.
So thinking about what to get next. I'm going to get a pait of Emperor Angels and I'm also thinking about something quite different - the Bowler's Parrotfish. They have one in an LFS in north Japan:

So slowly bring the Rabbitfish out of hypo. I guess they'll be in the DT around Thursday. Always a heartwarming moment to see fish go in there after QT. Shame about the Potters but they weren't really on my "must have" list. Going to get a pair of Emperors next and maybe a Naso. The Emperor and Regal Angels are on teh list as is a Clown Tang (last fish).

Surprised to read that it is that hard to get a Scarus quoyi over there.... In Holland, (where we probably cannot be further away from their natural habitat) almost every saltwater aqua store sells one or two. Do you know why they are so hard to get in Japan?
It is clear to me however that live-stock assortments over here (especially for corals) are rather thin... No way I would be able to find the kind of colours as shown in several LPS forums on RC.
Can you share something in general on availability of Corals and Fish in Japan?

Wow I can see how that Parrotfish is soo tempting...the colors are insane.
Hans - we just don't see a lot of Parrotfish over here. You don't big FO or FOWLR tanks. The big ones are all reefs so Parrotfish won't sell well.
So as that's out the windows, how about a Bird Wrasse?

So the new fish arrived yesterday. I got 2 Emperor Angels - one in 3-4" and already started its colour change. The other is a 1.5# juvi. I heard this was the best recipe for success in pairing these fish. The other 2 fish are a male Blue Jaw Trigger around 2.5" and not yet fully changed toits adult colours and teh Bird Wrasse pictured above.
All are healthy and eating. The trigger is a bit skittish as I found was the case with the Niger when I had it in QT. It's very outgoing in the DT. Bird Wrasse also very skittish. It comes out once an hour, does a few circuits, grabs some food and hides again. This will be my biggest fish if he makes it to the DT at over 5". I'm happy I got it as its very different from your standartd Tangs, Angels etc.
The 2 Rabbitfish went into the DT yesterday. They promptly disappeared but today they are out and about. They took up residence in the rocks dead center but they are always swimming around now, always together an pickng at rocks and sand. The added yellow they give the tank is awesome and I couldn't be happier.
