jawfish burrow

We just received a jawfish. After much debate, both on reef central and with my daughter (my co-reef-fanatic), we put him directly in our display tank. I know, I know.."what, no quarantine!" We decided he needed an enviornment with sand and I guess we like living on the edge.

But the question is. He just arrived yesterday, he promptly went behind the rocks and has made a burrow back there! Anyways, I am going to leave him be for now. How do I encourage him to build in front?

It would be nice to see the fish living in the tank!

Try placing some rubble in the area you would like him to be in. Use small pices of LR or snail shells and give him a good sized pile to work with.

Like someone else said, put a whole bunch of ruble, shells, rocks etc where you would like him to be and he might start building there. Also They will burrow all of the tank to so many different places it will blow your mind, that whole tank will be his :D

Yeah only if he's the only sand dweller.

so, jawfish make more than one home? I am hesitant to irritate him since he is new to the tank, but I do hope I will see him without peering into the depths of the back of tank. Do they come out to eat???
