Jawfish ok QT'ing w/o substrate?

Evening everyone-

Will a jawfish be stressed out if I put him in my QT which does not have any substrate?

DT has 3-4" of sand, however the QT is bare-bottomed. Would this be ok??

Want a Jawfish (loved my last one's personality, but it's been 15 years since then) and want to provide the best care.

Thanks!

Agreed, without substrate your jawfish will be stressed and will try everything he can to jump from tank.
Good luck, great fish!!!

I have seen pics of people putting sand in a rubbermaid dish in there QT for certain fish or inverts that need it. Then they remove and discard the sand after the QT period is over. I thought it was a pretty good idea.

I was wondering the same thing but I'd hate to go through the hassle of adding sand to the QT and dealing with the mess of cleaning it up afterwards.

I will give the rubbermaid container idea a try as a LFS near me just got a bunch of blue spotted jawfish...

That is a great idea Andy, thanks! That would certainly save me the hassle of removing sand from the entire QT, but still allow him to hide and do his thing.

Love these little guys, so interesting to watch. I'm glad this question popped in my head while considering getting another Jawfish! And even more thanks to all of you that responded!

I love jawfish (I have collected seven sp in the wild including bluespots) the way I have qt'd all of mine was with pvc. They use the pieces to hide in and are fine. I've kept them that way in my holding tanks during collection trips and it seems to calm them down during the whole trip.
