Hey my jawfish just spawned! I will keep it updated and try and get some pics up on monday and try and answer any questions.

There are 7 in a 55 gallon and they have been together maybe two months. Temp is like 87 degrees. They eat like pigs and this is day one for the eggs so it will be a little slow until I get some larvae.

O just wanted to clarify these are Yellowhead Jawfish (Opistognathus aurifrons) but 87 isn't bad for fish it just speeds up their metalbolism not all fish can handle it. There are bundoon blennies in with them and peppermint shrimp and all are fine.

I don't know the dimensions of a 37 gal. off hand but you ideally want about 6 inches of crushed coral not sand and keep the aquascape open. In the 55 gal. there is just 6-7 inches crushed coral and a pvc cave for the bundoon's and a sponge filter that the shrimp and one bundoon hang out in. So it is very open. You could maybe try 4-5 that would probably give you a male and female. Males have bigger heads (for incubating the eggs) than females but it is hard to tell when they aren't in a group so your best bet would be too buy a group.

As far as blue spots 37 gal. won't do. They are very aggressive and would need a big tank. Plus they prefer cooler water (like a lot cooler than 87). Cooler than your average tank. With blue spots your best bet is to try to get a pair but you might go broke doing so.

I will try and get pics up monday they are in the lab at school so it is closed on the weekends.

No more eggs. Looks like the switched up the burrows a little. Its so hard having things in the lab because I can't really keep tabs on it, but they should spawn again soon so I will keep it updated.

thanks! and sorry for highjacking your thread. if they fight will i have to seperate them or will they work it out on there own?

You will need to seperate them. At least with my experience with yellowheads if they pick on a fish it dies. They can be pretty brutle and blue spots are suppose to be worse. Good Luck I hope you succeed hopefully you get lucky with a pair but for a better chance at success you may need to use a bigger tank for blue spots.
