Jawsee's Reef

Hey Luc - I thought I read somewhere that you are dosing ethanol or vinegar (some carbon dosing), but hope I'm not mixing up your tank with someone else's. Is that correct?? Also, what would you say is your strategy for maintaining trace levels of phosphate, I noticed you feed quite heavily to keep your angels satisfied, and you've also mentioned that gfo is only rarely needed.... please tell us your secret formula for keeping your nutrients low. Thanks.

hey luc, the tank is extraordinary.. with all the different color contrasts...amazing...
I am not able to get the coloration on my corals with LED lighting... just wanted to know about your Strontium recipe.. would you like to share it so that i can give it a shot...

Hi Kinlayan,in the totm article you can see on the movie in the cellar there is a tank far to the right side,in this tank all the new fish stay for around 4 a 6 weeks.
This tank is feeded whit water from the system from around 300 liters an hour, all the water that goes out of this tank is passed by an UV lamp,a certain amound of this water that passed the UV goes back into this tank .

That is all i do for introduce new fish into the system,if you observe the fish you can see a lot on how they are.

I have good contac'ts whit one off the biggest wholesalers in EU and he said to me this is a very good way to do.

A healty fish whit no stress and well feeded has no much risk on it.

One of the pygo's now staying in the maintank has been attack when introducing him into the tank because he was thin and weak, after two weeks into this tank and good feeding i introduced him again and there where no problems anymore because now he was healty, animals now that soon when another one is weak.

Jawsee , do you use Uv and ozone at all? how do you quarantine your fish?
Very interested in this as your tank is amazing and one of the biggest problems is the introduction of disease to the tanks

Sheldon,

i dose indeed simple vinegar into the sytem, around 20 ml in the evening, why:Dput a drop into your mouth and see what happens,it,s the same whit corals, after dosing the vinegar you get good polip extension and the corals are ready to take some extra food.

In a lot off bottles you can buy into your shop you easely can detect the vinegar or related products as an appetizer.

The carbon is a small but welcome extra.

Phosphate is undetectable in the system here,i think for my example there are a lot of reasons, very good coral grow(whats very good,in my old two meter tank at least 1000 good frags a year)

When they are growing they absorb no3 and po4 and are helping too get a system in balance.

I always believed that a tank runs better and better if it contains as much as corals you can put into that tank.

When i have a lot off frags into the cellar they absorb a lot off all kinds off stuff and so they are a part off keeping my tank in balance,in these tanks there is also sand so in the end i get a lot off bacterial substrate too.

After some time you know your system by watching your corals so i know when i can give something extra for my fish or corals.

I talkt a lot whit some people who know something more as the most people do about bacterial live and in their eyes a full fragtank whit sand in it is very good to keep these values very low and in the end it pays better as algea.

I hope this answer gives you an answer on your questions:wave:QUOTE=Scej12;19007033]Hey Luc - I thought I read somewhere that you are dosing ethanol or vinegar (some carbon dosing), but hope I'm not mixing up your tank with someone else's. Thanks for your kind words:wave:

I use strontium as follow.

In a one liter bottle i put 400 gram strontiumchloridhexahydraat and fill the bottle complete.

From this basesolution i put montly 80 ml into the tank,i do this by putting the 80 ml in 500 ml fresh water and dose it whit a grotech dosing sytem.

This is for 4400 liters water filled whit a lot of sps corals so if your tank has less corals you could dose less.

Jawsee thank you very much for the explanation - which uv make do you use? how many watts? and how often do you change the bulb 6 months?

The first big job is done, all the lamps are replaced,i have made a few pic's too see iff you can see some difference, the camera says there is more light into the tank now.

Tomorrow time too clean the skimmer complete.
