Background:
Ive had reef tanks for the last 5 years or so ranging from 10 to 120 gallons. I just ditched my giant 120 for a much more reasonable JBJ 20. Ive always loved nano reefs and giant tanks are just a pain in the *** to be honest.

Equipment:
Jbj 20 gallon rimless
Corallife nano skimmer
50 watt glass heater
tune wave makers (running about 350 GPH ish)
stock 266 GPH rerun pump with spray bar
Maxspect 60w LED fixture
Media bags of carbon and phosphate sponge
JBJ ATO
25 LBS black LS
20 LBS of LR

Livestock
*all of the livestock and corals came from what I wanted to save from my 120 gallon

Pigmy Flameback angel
Purple Firefish gobe
15 hermits
5 snails
coral banded shrimp
Sea urchin
Large squamosa clam
small maxima clam
maximani carpet anemone

Corals
Birds nest
Brain
Trumpet
Frog spawn
Acan
Green button polyps
*cheato algae living in second sump chamber

Im just getting started in this...Im still moving corals and setting the tank up just how I want it. Getting the flow right is definitely a trick. Dont know why they call it a 20 because it only holds 15 gallons. As it stands now I'm changing 4 gallons a week with instant ocean reef crystals (SG 1.024- 1.025). Dosing Calcium, DKH, and trace elements.

More pics and details coming soon.

Update:

Its a new tank so there are always problems. Im trying to get everything set up just right. When I moved everything into the new tank I had a nitrate spike (fortunately it only killed a torch coral) Its almost back to normal (about 5 PPM) and phosphates are all but gone as well. Calcium is back up to 420 ppm too

Problem:
My cheato is dying in my refugium for some reason. I was running a phosphate sponge and thats the main thing I am thinking that killed it. The light was on about 12 hours a day, I have since switched to an LED on that is a little smaller and on 24-7

Oh and I lost my Firefish but thats because my coral banded is in ******* and attacked him. I forgot with a small tank you need to be more careful about livestock. Im use to my big tank that had 150 lbs of LR to hide in.

I also hung the light and it sits about 4 inches higher....and looks awesome

Can anyone help me with my cheato problem? Also my clan isn't open all the way like it was in my 120 gallon which I'm sure is because there is less for him to eat in he water. I have been adding phytoplankton to help is there anything else to get him going full blast again?

So the living room remodel is about done so I figured id post some pics.

Got the corals about where i want them. had to frag my frogspawn because it was WAY too big. Should be adding some new corals soon...

Sweet tank. Are those mangrove roots in the back?

Nah they are actually in the display in holes in the lr. I've always thought that was a really cool look. The back chamber was cheato but it died. Got a new fudge light so I can try some again.
