JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Thanks for replying chad p. Definitely something to think about. My tanks been successful with ecoxotics but I'm considering a change for aesthetic reasons. I had heard some other reports of corals bleaching under the a150. I know the 350 is dimmable- but when you combine expense with it not being 'necessary', I'm not sure if I could slip the bigger purchase past the wife. I can pick up a new a150 with the gooseneck for 250 brand new this weekend, which means as long as I buy her some jeans or something she won't balk.

The way I was looking at the a150 is that there is a 12inch circle at about 8-10 inches deep that you could grow about anything (based on 400 par at 8 inches deep from this thread http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2040877&highlight=kessil) and outside of that halo you'd have to really be careful. Do you think that's accurate or am I thinking wishfully?

As chad says, raise the cup up as high as it will go, it'll level out quickly. Something in your tank is setting it off. Many things can do this, including recent use of epoxy, certain supplements or foods, etc etc.

I'm still having this problem, although I haven't had much time to tinker around with it and try to figure it out. I'm thinking it must be my water for a few reasons:

1. I've been skimmerless for probably a year. I took that lousy stock skimmer out soon after I bought the tank and haven't put anything back on it until now. I was planning and upgrade so figured why bother.

2. Almost every frag I have is epoxied down, with JBJ waterweld. This must be it.

So I did a 5g water change last night and still have this issue although it doesn't seem as out of control. I'm thinking maybe do like a 10-15%wc tonight and see what happens. Also I was thinking of running the skimmer on some new salt water and see what happens, and then maybe add a little tank water into that and see. Could be interesting.

Also another problem I have now run into. I plumbed the chiller return into the display return hole, so now I have the flow and the stock pump on the other side always on. With both those on constant the water level in the display is higher and I think it is slowly leaking from the top. Anyone else have a problem like this? Should I knock out a tooth or two in the drain area?

Cold weather is coming soon. I've got the digital aquatics reef keeper lite up & running on my NC28. What do you think is the best heater for the NC28 with or without a controller?

Eheim Jager 100w is cheap and reliable, plus it's got overheat protection so you don't have to worry if you forget to unplug is during a waterchange...

Sounds like you are trying to justify getting the cheaper option. My 2c is don't skimp on your light if you want to grow nice corals. Doing it right the first time will save you money in the long term since you won't have to "re-do" anything. Go for the a350 :)

Sounds like you are doing the right thing and taking a good approach to fixing it. I find it hard to believe that epoxy would continue to cause skimmer overflow months, weeks, or even days after it was used. But if you just keep letting it skim out whatever is in your water, and refilling the tank with new SW, eventually it should settle out.

It's normal for the display water level to go up with both pumps running. I've been running my tank like this for about 1.5-yrs now and never had a problem with it leaking.

Yikes, mine is def leaking. Of course another issue I'll need to deal with. No idea how I'll handle this one....

Where exactly is it leaking from? Maybe you just need to reseal the black plastic brace at the top of your tank with some silicone?

Yes, that's where it is leaking from. It's just a very slow drip when I have both pimps on since the water goes a little higher. It's the front left side right where the glass curves.

Reducing the Fan Noise on professional models

Reducing the Fan Noise on professional models

My JBJ 28g Nano cube LED professional model just arrived and I was thrilled to turn on these lights and see LEDs in action. When I did, it was very disappointing to hear a loud hum. I wasn't sure if the noise was coming from the fans or the lights. I contacted JBJ and Marine Depot and filled out a customer service form. After several hours of thinking about what I should do, I decided to investigate this myself and see if I can make something work.

Picture of the LED lights on the nano cube.

I took the lights off and the protected cover off to do some troubleshooting. Once I did that, I unplugged all of the fans and the noise was completely gone. This confirmed my suspension that the noise was from the fans.

I then removed the screws out of one of the fans and took it out of the hood. The I plugged that fan back in to see if the noise was from a problem in the fan or due to another reason. The fan ran completely silent once it was out of the hood. I identified that the noise was due to the fan being screwed too tight in the hood and was making a loud humming noise. Add the other 3 fans to the equation and the noise was rather annoying. I decided to loosen up the fans a little bit. This will allow the fan to slight hang off of the hood and not rattle. The noise was significantly less and solved the issue.

Eheim Compact 1000 As a Return Pump?

Eheim Compact 1000 As a Return Pump?

So a few weeks ago ange posted that he had an Eheim 1000 on order and that he'd notify us if it was a good fit. There was a mix up if I remember right and his LFS didn't get it in. I know a few posters including myself were wondering if it was a match.

I had a need to replace a return pump so I went ahead and ordered one and it fits just fine. I have it adjusted to full blast and it seems to be great. I had a Compact 300 in its place temporarily and I desperately needed more flow. The Compact 1000 is giving me that now.

Here's a shot of the Eheim Compact 1000 (260 gph) next to the original Accela return pump for size comparison which is now in my ATO container:

The new Eheim is obviously on the right. All in all the footprint on them is about the same. Can't comment on the temp differential between this pump and the Accela since I didn't go directly from the Accela to the Eheim.

Way to go dood, thanks for the info!! Gave up on the LFS so going to order mine straight from MD tonight :)

Not sure what you mean ange. Is the outlet on the Eheim 5/8"?

I just used 1/2" tubing that I had from BRS. It was a bit of a tight fit but I heated the ends up in boiling water and it slid right over without too much trouble at all.

Just got a jbj 28 nano cube led intermediate cycling for 1 1/2 weeks now.

now just being patiently waiting...

Good luck with the tank and keep us posted on the progress. I like the rock scape too. A sloping arch shape with the cave seems to be a popular look. And why not? It's awesome! Plus it makes for a lot of room at various depths for all kinds of different corals/zoas/rics etc etc.

Hey guys,

I was referred by another section to ask here so i am!

Hey guys, so I'm thinking about getting into the hobby again after taking a break for about a year and a it.... I got the itch back!

This time I'm looking into buying the jbj 28 gal cube and using that

I have the deltech mce 600 skimmer I was wondering if anyone has used this on the back of the tank.thanks

Also are the led's on the tank good enough for spa corals?

Lastly I'm looking to get rid of my ATI 24x6 fixture the bulbs are about a month new and the fixture itself maybe 6 months. I live around Toronto CA , pm me if you're interested .

This is my old tank http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1956366

Thanks!

thank you, will do post progress.
It's the only rock scape that I can do knowing the short length side wise and the how deep the cube is.

Yep, the Eheim is a 5/8" ID outlet, which explains why you had to heat up the tubing. I was debating between heating it and using a 5/8" to 1/2" hose barb adaptor. I think the route you went is cleaner and easier, my only concern is easy disassembly for cleaning and maintenance.

Hey everybody, looking for a little help with my led professional hood. The lights keep flickering for a bit of time every couple of hours. Anybody have the issue? I switched to my old pc hood but would love to get the LEDs back on. Anybody know where i get a ballast? Everywhere seems to be sold out. Any other solutions?

Thanks,

Jay
