JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

Yep, the Eheim is a 5/8" ID outlet, which explains why you had to heat up the tubing. I was debating between heating it and using a 5/8" to 1/2" hose barb adaptor. I think the route you went is cleaner and easier, my only concern is easy disassembly for cleaning and maintenance.

I would just go with 1/2 hose on the 5/8 outlet. Its a cleaner look and you don't need to use a clamp.

Hey everybody, looking for a little help with my led professional hood. The lights keep flickering for a bit of time every couple of hours. Anybody have the issue? I switched to my old pc hood but would love to get the LEDs back on. Anybody know where i get a ballast? Everywhere seems to be sold out. Any other solutions?

Thanks,

Jay

Hope this helps: http://www.marineandreef.com/JBJ_28G_NanoCube_Daylight_LED_Remote_Ballast_p/rjb10110.htm

I went from 3/8" to 1/2" on the smaller Eheim and I found that it wasn't too difficult to get it off and on for cleaning. The rubber in the tubing seems to get trained to the bigger size.

Matter of fact all my stuff is plumbed with 3/8" tubing from Home Depot
. I should have known that the new pump was 5/8" because I wasn't able to use that hose and I had to dust off some heavy duty 1/2" BRS tubing from the garage.

Need some help pls.

I am cycling my 28 nano cube led now, but everytime I turn both waves, I see a lot of particles coming from both directions. What do you think it is? I am using red sea coral pro salt, was thinking maybe it's salt particles.

Another issue I am having is that the water temperature is 81.5F from one thermometer and the other is 81F, planning on adding a fan on the hood, what fan fits there and how do you install it?

Are you using filter media in the top of your media basket? If so just let both returns run and the particles should go away sooner or later. Change the filter pad/floss every couple of days. If it still doesn't go away siphon out the back compartments.

As for the water temp...if it tops out at 80 or 81 degrees I wouldn't worry about adding a fan. That's an acceptable temperature for a reef tank. Hope that helps.

I have a euro nano skimmer at the back middle compartment, took the media basket and just put the carbon and on top the filter media, but they are both at the skimmer side compartment though.

Will try running it longer since I only ran it for an 1hr. maybe it will go away.

Oh that's good, was worried about the temp.

thanks

No problem. I'd consider ditching the nano skimmer and going with a hang on back like the HOB-1 and putting the media basket back in place but that's just a suggestion. No right or wrong way necessarily.

Oh I am already waiting for the HOB-1 in the mail. Will change the media into a small refugium though. I know it's too small but just want to give it a try.

While waiting what do you suggest I'll do? take the nano skimmer now and put back the media basket?

Thanks man but wish they had it back in stock. It's been out of stock for over 3 months now !
You can try to contact them if you want it right away. My moonlight power adapter broke a while ago, and I found out they sell it on their site but was out of stock too at that time. Then I forgot about it and then checked again in like a month or two later and they have it in stock and I ordered it from them. So I do think they restock from JBJ once in a while.

That's probably what I'd do. Focus on mechanical filtration while you're waiting for the Aquamaxx to see if you can get rid of the particles which I'm sure will clear up. Then return to skimming when it comes in.

Could be your water level too if it's not happening with only 1 pump. When you turn both on, the water level in your back chambers drops, and the spill over from the constant-level chambers can cause bubbles to be returned to the display. Enable both pumps, and look in the back and adjust water level until it's level between the outside pump chambers and the center constant volume chambers.

yes, it only happens when I turn both. how do I adjust the water level at the back. the middle where the media is full while both sides usually has low water level but they are both level though.

All you have to do is add more saltwater to the tank. The chambers just to the right and left of the media basket flow over into the two back corners. What ange is saying is just to add saltwater slowly into the tank until it doesn't overflow, but rather both chambers have an even amount of water. Mine actually fall about 1 inch but go with anges' suggestion. Then maintain the water at that level for the rest of your life. Or until you get rid of the tank, whichever comes first.

Spot on answer. I run mine level, but to each their own, 1" really won't matter much. Just works better with my ATO setup and gives more margin for error (which is why I started at that level long before I had an ATO).

Oh ok, will just have take some water off then. Everytime the 2 pumps are on the water going to the media filter goes jumping way far off.

thanks will try it.

Get an InTank media basket, its will handle the additional flow.

Just ordered an aquamaxx hob-1 and two of the Two Little Fishies PhosBan Reactor 150. Looking to run a similar set up like yours. What type of pump are you using for the Two Little Fishies PhosBan Reactors? Sorry if this was already mentioned but I didn't see this.

Furniture Stand Options

I'm looking for a few options for a nice furniture stand. My wife isn't going for the JBJ stock stand and she is wanting a furniture stand for this aquarium. Does anybody know of places that will ship nice stands for the JBJ 28g nano cube?

Have you considered making one? I haven't built one yet but I'm going to for my next build. Way cheaper and you can do it the way you want. After watching a couple of youtube videos on it I'm convinced it's really pretty easy. A lot of people use nightstands for cube builds but I don't want it to sit quite that low. Plus I want more room for equipment. Just a suggestion and unless you live in an apartment and have zero tools I'm sure you could do it.

I have thought about it but after my last build, my wife has banned me from building another stand. Not that I did a horrible job or anything, it just that she is wanting something that looks really nice. I agree with you about the night stands. There are lot of options for those out there but nothing with the height that I am looking for. It is currently sitting on an old humidor that I don't use anymore. The only problem is that I have to turn the humidor sideways for the tank to fit and it looks a bit odd.
