JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

I have a in tank media basket with carbon bag, purigen and floss. I have an aquamaxx Hob skimmer. I am also running one of the stock pumps through a chiller. That connection loose a lot of flow, if I run the other pump the water level goes down and I get a lot micro bubbles. I don't know why my in tank cannot keep up. Shall I replace the stock pump with a MJ400 or 600? I can then run both pumps. I was going to ask this to Angelo "ange062", since he had a similar setup. I am not sure he is around lately

If you just add more water you should be good. The stock Accela's should push more water than either of the MJ's you mentioned, and the Eheim alternatives are far superior.

If I remember correctly, I think "Ange062" had his pumps replaced with Eheim 1000's and had to turn them down a bit.

Indeed, worked out great aside from the whole 5/8th inch output connection. But some warm water will allow a 1/2" pipe to stretch enough to fit if you don't want to build an adapter.

Hey Ed! I know this post was a few months back, but I was wondering how the Hydor Slim Skim Nano worked out? I have been in the same boat with the JBJ NC28. Can't find a skimmer that will work. :headwallblue:

I have one now that was recommended by DFS for the NC28 but it doesn't work well and I can't open the lid without knocking the collection cup off. I don't have enough room for a HOB skimmer without draining and moving the tank further away from the wall, and I'm not keen on doing that either.

Is anyone having luck finding a good quality skimmer that will fit this tank???

Tunze 9002 fits the back chamber but you have to lose your media chamber.

Oh, yeah. Thanks, Ange! I looked at the Tunze 9002. Good little skimmer, but not worth giving up my media basket, which btw I upgraded to the larger In-Tank basket after seeing it on your tank build thread! Great media basket :)

I also saw that you're using the Aqua Max HOB skimmer, which is likely what I'll end up with also"¦ eventually, when I get the ambition to drain the tank and move it out 3 or 4 inches from the wall :sad2:

5 months in. LED Pro version. My first aquarium ever. I explained to my LFS that I want to start a nano reef as my first ever and they acted like it was impossible and that I would cause some kind of aquatic apocalypse. I never went back there. Seems everything is doing ok, everything is growing and most everything started out as half dollar size frags. Videos posted.

Watch cleaner shrimp cleaning midas blenny at the end.
No sump,No skimmer (used to have the aqua euro and it was garbage).
1 bag chemi pure elite, 1 bag purigen, and lots of denitrate rocks. Water change only 1-1.5 months (Im lazy and the water is usually spot on and I feel like I diminish some of my supplements when I water change.).
Manually supplement purple up, magnesium, carbonate, trace elements.

Heres my live rock cleaning method without water change. I do this about every 2 weeks.

Is there any way to connect the stock led daylights on the professional or intermediate to Current's ramp timer?

Also, is there room under the splash guard for either tank to mount additional 6" - 12" led bar lights such as stunners or truelumens?

I was looking into this too (have the Intermediate LED). I wasn't looking to add below the splash guard but did measure there is room above the splash guard to install a 12" stunner-like actinic bar that was 3/4" tall below and between the stock LEDs. I think you'd have to dremel out a small square of the black plastic sidewalls to hold it in place and run wires. Above the guard would benefit from the fans drawing air through this area. I've yet to purchase the stunner bar but this upgrade is on my wish list.

If you do about a 50% water change and have two people around to help it really shouldn't be that hard to slide the tank out a few inches. I think you need about 4.5" of clearance if I recall correctly, the info is over in that HOB-1 / NC28 thread.

This for sure is on my upgrade list. I've looked at Stunner leds, -it just looks like it will fit in the hood with the stock LED lights. (I have the intermediate LED)
If anybody has or does this -let us know what fits.

I also wonder if we can tap into existing power supply to run the stunners strips - thus no need to run a cord.

I gotta think that the OE powersupply can also run a few Stunner (or similer) LED strips.

Anybody know what the intermediate LED power-supply is rated for?

Aquamax HOB on my 28g nano works amazing. I had to pull my tank away from the wall as well but that's a small price to pay if you wanna get a good skimmer.

Need Help with CPR Aquafuge 2 Installation

Need Help with CPR Aquafuge 2 Installation

Hi Guys,

i installed a CPR Aquafuge Hang-On at the back of my tank, after some modification to the feed so it can fit in the last chamber, i ran it and i have a lot of micro bubble created by the return being to high for the water level in chamber 1. See pic:

Anyone have installed one with success? The noise of the water and the micro bubble are really bad!!!

Any suggestion welcome.

Thankss!

CPR Aquafuge 2 on JBJ 28G

I finally got around the installation:

1 - I move the Rio Pump inside the fuge (feed), it is easier to maintain or me, i have a temporary flex setup but i ordered PVC to hard pipe it so i minimize the micro bubble created by the siphon (it's not bad anyway)

2 - I added as suggested some filter pad on the return and it is much quieter and eliminated most of the micro bubble.

Here are the pictures:

Hope that might help someone else trying to install the CPR Aquafuge on the JBJ 28G.
