JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

rotate it and try to push it pass the edge part. There's one angle that works better. I didn't have to remove my hood but that might help.

+1 - it fits without cutting the lip. go slow, rotate (remove the elbow from the base)

Got it in. Letting it break in now. You still satisfied with yours? I know John was not happy with his and is going back with a HOB. I only have two seahorses so I have a limited bioload. Love how quite it is compared to the air-stone skimmer.

It's not that it's a bad skimmer it's just that it didn't perform as well or was as easy to maintain as the Eshopps that I had on their first. If this was the first skimmer I had put on I would have been happy with it, AFTER I got it dialed in because it was a royal PITA to get right in the beginning. Once you get use to it it takes only a few seconds to get it set correctly.

Quick question...

I have caulerpa blowing up all over the place. Anyone know if there's something I can either get to eat this or anything? Driving me crazy. It's everywhere. Or am I going to just have to slowly keep reaching in a pulling it out. That's annoying as well...

Thanks for any thoughts.

Tough situation. A tang might eat the stuff but won't fit in a 28. Likely you'll end up trying to manually remove it which will be really hard if it's on the rock and not just the sand.

I've run several skimmer over the years (I'm sure you've read reviews and posts I've written all over this board) - this skimmer is pretty good for the following reasons:

  1. cost - hard to beat the price point
  2. size - it's not HOB (need I say more)
  3. quiet - silence is golden (ask anyone that owns an HOB)

However, I find it lacking in these areas:

  1. not the best performance
  2. hard to adjust/fine tune
  3. taking the cup off is a royal PITA

All said, it depends what you are looking for in a skimmer. There isn't a "wrong" skimmer to get. They all do the exact same thing in a different way. I think nano reefers are all looking for the "silver bullet" skimmer that will solve all of their issues. It's not going to happen. I would offer you this - you get what you pay for when it comes to skimmers

Haha, i agree. the aquaeuro was a pia at first... first to even get it in the back compartment, then to get it to skim. But after a little tweaking with it, i am pretty happy with it. it skims fairly well and is quiet and i also get to keep my media basket:dance:

I made the switch from a 90 to my 28g LED a few months back.
I personally prefer making my own DIY ATO, here's a link with photos and another with a schematic diagram.

As far as replacing the return pump, just pull it out by the cord or hose unless you happen to have a spouse/friend with small enough hands to get in there. :)

Thanks, where did you purchase your parts from?

Best place is to order them from here:
http://www.digikey.com/
You can also get parts from radio shack or, even better, if you have a good local electronics shop that has a good selection that would be nice. I happen to have a great local shop in downtown Sacramento. Still, DigiKey is the cheapest and has a great selection.

Ok, i'm pretty familiar with Digikey, wish we had a good electronics store, stuck with radioshack:hmm3:

well I'm happy to announce that I am now a proud member of a 28jbj CF. I got it from a fellow member it came with a Natutilus Phosan Reactor by kent. And also I think the stock skimmer and the 2 accrla pumps are these stocks? Also came with stock media basket.. I have a few questions I am wondering if I should change out the pumps to 1200 like I have seen a many do.? And also can yall give me suggestions for a skimmer that fits without any modds if not maybe a good HOB skimmer? Also I want to keep the media basket but I also want a refugim is this possible? One more question do they sell a hood by it self LED? I looked at nanotuners but it looked like just the lights?? Thanxx sorry for all the questions

You can get a HOB refugium if you want to keep the stock media basket. Also, JBJ sells the "professional" LED hood separately for about $400 if I remember the price correctly. Not sure how much the intermediate one costs or if they sell it by itself.

thanx for the response corrado007...i think im goin to trade the media baskets out for the in tank one and get a refugium.. if i get refugium can i get a hob skimmer or sit in skimmer?i will be buyng the led pro hood also.. where do they sell those i checked jbj there is not any prices and nano just sells lights if im correct?

thanx yall. Well I have a tank and stand. And I got the tank in a trade so I have not spend a penny yet so think I'm goin to buy hood but if I didn't trade I would of bought the whold tank that is a great deal..
