JBJ 28 Gallon Nano Owners Club

I ordered the same hood from the same website about 3 weeks ago. Took about a week to arrive (not the best packing job but the hood was not damaged). It's been running for about a week so far and I am happy I made the change (from PC hood). Much quieter without the fans for the PC bulbs running and much less of a heat issue. Light is not as intense as I expected (I'm used to HQI lighting on my main display tank) but I am anxious to see improved growth in my corals.

I am sure this is in the thread somewhere but I keep getting lost in it, lol. For a CPR hang-on fuge, is the large one ok, or does the small one fit better? Thanks for any thoughts!

Just purchased a duncan and brain coral so here it is.

Acquacultured Red Lord Acans. Got about 8 heads poping out now, if I move it to bottom than they will expand thus space problem so I am gonna keep them there so they stay checked in. Because I dont know how to frag.

I thought I'd share an observation about my LED Nano. Seems the LED lighting is a bit much for my birdsnest. I have the main colony about 2/3 the way up the tank roughly in the center of the tank directly below the LEDs and it's a bit faded. A few pieces of it broke off and I have them on frag plugs in the sand at the bottom and they look much more colorful and healthy. I'm a little surprised the LED would be too intense for SPS, even birdsnest.

Yeah, I had a birdnest and found the same thing. Acclimated it by slowly raising place in tank. Near the top is when it started going south. Putting it lower helped out the growth and health. Weird.

Just wanted to make an observation on the Tunze skimmer. I did the Modification (youtube) on the airline and was having a major microbubble issue along with not great bubbles. I pulled it out to doublecheck everything and it looked like there was a kink in the airline tubing coming out of the skimmer where it turned to go up the side. I changed the modification so that the airline ran from the original spot, up through the skimmer, and out through a hole that I drilled in the top of the skimmer (next to the old valve.). This gave me the better, more easily adjustable valve, and no chance for kinks. It worked great! No more microbubbles (practically) and much, much better bubble production to the cup.

Did any of your SPS brown out after switching to LED? I've been had mine under the LED for about 2 1/2 weeks and some stuff is definitely changing color. I have good polyp extension though. :hmm5:

I don't have too much SPS. I had a sunset monti in my 90 under 250W MH bulbs and it was all but dead. I put it in the nano under the LEDs and it came back amazingly well. The polyps are bright green and extend quite a bit. The birdsnest has grown under the LEDs but browned/faded out a bit with the exception of the frags that broke off the main colony and are lower down in the sand. Other than that it's mostly rics and zoas in my tank. All of which seem very happy although I had to move a lot of the rics under ledges as the LEDs were too intense for them in the direct light on the sand.

Chiller question

Chiller question

A local is selling a Current - CUR02635 - Prime Chiller 1/10 HP Dual Stage.

Does anyone know if this will fit inside the stock stand. It says that it is 11" wide, so if I take the door off it could just fit, but wanted to check for thoughts here. Is it bad to even have a chiller in the stand with little ventilation?

Thanks.

My tank is new enough that I can't tell 100% for sure what part of browning out or coloring up has been due to the switch. It's been hit and miss for me. I had some pieces that went pale under MH that are now turning green and getting tip color back under LED. But I've also had a piece get very brown that was more purple under MH.

It was only a few of my colonies, but my red planet took the biggest hit, it seems like most are on the recovery though

If I recall correctly, the stand is about 13w x 16h x 18d in inches. Here is a pic of my JBJ Mini Arctica that is 8 x 14 x 13. I had to install a fan into my cabinet for supplemental airflow.

Glad it's making a comeback. I have a pet theory that some of these issues may be caused by LEDs not falling off as fast with depth. So some of the old rules about what belongs 'midtank' may not be accurate anymore.

If you look at some of the par maps, I've seen MH being 50% higher par wise in the first 6inches of water but then only half the par of leds on the sand bed. Just a theory though.
